Years at this apartment:

I have lived here for almost two years and have a mostly positive impression of the complex. I would definitely recommend it to others, but it?s far from perfect. Here are the good and bad things I have noticed.
GOOD:
L 2-minute drive to 128, brand new Stop & Shop up the street, downtown Burlington a short drive.
Office staff. They have been through a few managers over the past year, but the current staff is extremely polite and receptive to complaints/requests. I did encounter some rudeness in the past, but that was from personnel who have since left, thankfully.
Maintenance. They usually (but not always) respond quickly, but the job is done right. They are very polite and helpful, even when paged during off-hours.
Appliances. All apartments have new or near-new washers and dryers, and mine came with a brand-new refrigerator. The oven is a bit older but it works fine.
BAD:
Rent. Absolutely ridiculous. My rent was raised almost $200 during the worst stretch of the recession. Then all of a sudden, they found themselves with empty units, which has lowered the rents, but not by much. They completely renovated the clubhouse and exercise room, which will probably increase my next rent even though I never set foot in the place.
Lack of sufficient notice. Their style is to leave a note at each door just days before a scheduled event, for example, repaving parking lots or checking smoke detectors. In the case of the parking lots, I was supposed to be out of town for a few days but the trip got cancelled at the last minute. Had I gone, I would have come back to find a 3-day old notice by my door (a security issue right there) and a towed-away car.
Office hours. The office is open on Saturdays but is closed on many non-holidays when tenants need services. For example, the day before (and after) Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Don?t you think that just maybe some people would like to get packages from the office during that time of year'
Floors. You?ll feel like you?re in a haunted house with all the creaking. Just hope you have upstairs neighbors who don?t move much. The walls seem to be thick, though. I have never heard a sound through them.
Neighbors. Not to sound snobby here, but I think Archstone has some Chapter 40B (affordable housing) units, which results in more white trash than I care to live around for the rent I pay. Depends on which building you?re in, but you might find yourself around people who don?t care that their kids are running around at 11:00 p.m. or that they?re blasting music out the window into a common area. But most tenants appear to be professional, classy people. Just get a sense for the building you?re moving into before you sign the lease. The very back of the complex is the danger zone.
