808-812 Memorial Drive

Not the right building for me From: -Anonymous- Date posted: 10/1/2003 Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2003   I have lived in 808 Memorial Drive for a couple of months and am already looking for a new apartment to move into at the end of my lease. My actual unit is fine, it is clean and has a great view of the river. I have had only one mantainence request which was handled promptly on a Sunday afternoon. I would like to move however, because the rent is too high for a builiding that has some of the issues this one has. While not made known until you are sitting down to sign the lease, this property is a mixed income building. In short, this means the residents vary from those on social assistance, to grad students and young professionals. While I am ideologically not opposed to mixed income housing and understand and agree with the rationale for not intentionally creating communities of poverty, there are sometimes (not always) issues that come along with low income persons and those have been present in our building. While I am sure they represent a very small portion of the residents, there have been problems with people not properly disposing of trash, loudly congregating in hallways and the lobby using foul language, allowing their children to run wild etc. There have been incidences of laundry being stolen from the laundry room and I personally had my bike seat stolen from the parking garage. I have lived in two other buildings both within blocks of this building and faced none of these issues. While the cultural diversity is nice, and the apartment is ok, I am not content to spend this much money to live in a building that in reality feels like a housing project. Everyone has to make their personal decesion on this, however.
