things you _must_know_ before renting here

This review applies to the 10 Centre St Building only. It is compiled from the experiences of five apartments and a corresponding group of tenants.
- Laundry is in other building. You must carry it either outside, or down a locked elevator, through the underground parking garage, and up another locked elevator.
- Electric heat, very poorly insulated floors. No thermostat, heat is manually controlled.
- Stove and Refrigerator are "apartment sized."
- No overhead lighting. Built in over-sink light in bathroom, below-cabinet light over kitchen sink, one single 60 watt fixture in entry. Tenant must supply all other lighting.
- Interior fixtures (cabinetry, closet shelving, bathroom sink, tub style/size, baseboard) vary widely from apartment to apartment.
- Convenient trash chute on every floor.
- Management and Maintenance are friendly and pleasant. Management initiatives to improve building quality and security are obvious and efforts this year are noticeable and well done. Problems rest firmly in the age and upkeep of the building prior to this point.
- Rent has been increasing. However, quality of individual apartments is not yet high enough to justify current rental prices, though if the staff continue improvements, it will be worth the premium in three to five years.
Overall: Friendly, safe, nice. Overpriced for current state. You will only pay electricity, cable, phone but please note that electricity powers your oven, stove, and all heating and can become _very_ expensive. Check with NStar for budget plan based on your particular apartment to discover actual cost of living here.
