929 House is a viable option in the Harvard Square area. Here are some thoughts:
* You get a lot of space w/ a good view.
* They recently updated the kitchen, and the bldg. is maintained very well.
* Unlike many other area highrise apts., you get parquet flooring (rather than carpeting).
* They are almost PARANOID about vermin problems. Apparenty, the bldg. suffered a massive infestation in the eary 90s, and they are now very careful, which is great.
* The staff are friendly, and the leasing/manaement personnel on the 2nd floor is highly welcoming and efficient.
* You can get lower rents elsewhere, but the quality of the bldg and the proximity to everything is unbeatable.
* Also, the management is flexible and gladly negotiated my rent upon lease renewal. I actually got a lower rent when I renewed. Of course, I am sure this will depend on the vacacy rate...
However..
* The rent is a bit on the higher side, given the location and amenities.
* No doorman/concierge.
* No amenities, like the gym, business ctr., etc.
* The ancient AC/heat pump units are noisy and cost a great deal to run.
* If you suffer from seasonal allergies, choose a unit that does not directly face trees.
* Your apt somehow gets really dusty, even if you dust riligiously--perhaps because of the heavy Mass Ave traffic.
* You theoretically get one parking spot, but there was a long waitist. You must then park on the street, which is an absolute nightmare.
* Yes, it is close to Harvard Square AREA, but the Harvard T station is a 15-minute walk away, so you might as well take the Mass Ave bus there.
* There is a gourmet supermarket nearby, but you need to go to Central Square (away from Harvard Sq.) for cheap groceries.
