Before moving to the Holmes building in May 2006, I looked everywhere near the T/bus lines for apartments. Holmes building although pricy (2100 for a 2 bedroom/2 baths; 150 for a covered parking spot), is well worth it. The apartments and building is super clean and very well managed. If anything needs to be fixed (such as replacing a light bulb or battery for the smoke detector), the maintenance turn around has been 24 hours for us at max. Laundry is on every floor (and I have never found the laundry room crowded). The underground garage is very convenient and safe. There are security cameras and a guard on site 24/7 so you feel very safe. Noise level inside is very minimal. I hardly ever hear my neighbors. But if you face the street (green street or Mass Ave), there is plenty of outdoor noise, especially in the summer with the windows open it can get a little annoying to hear buses and street cleaners announcements. But overall, it is an excellent building and I highly recommend it.
As many of my friends have commented when visiting, the apartment building looks like a fancy hotel. =)
