We have had continual problems with this company and I know we are not the only ones, since the only times we speak with the neighbors is to compare notes the latest mistakes of Idiots Unlimited. I have a friend in a university-owned building that was recently bought by this company- he got a special exemption to transfer mid-year because the management became so awful.
In our case, starting from day one when we were told the rent had not been raised but the previous tenant later told us it had been raised substantially. I will provide only a few of many more examples: 1) There have been several break-ins at our Cambridge building in the last few months (of which we were not informed!) and the front door is still not replaced with a better lock. We requested a deadbolt on the back door but did not receive it so we just barricaded the door (our fire escape) and take valuables with us when we leave the house. 2) They will not clean apartments between tenants and when we asked for our apartment to be painted they told us they would reimburse us only for the paint. 3) For months they would not update the callbox so we had to go through negotiations with UPS every time we get a package. We still cannot buzz in our friends. 4) The heating pipes make knocking noises. 5) There is often a flood on the floor near the laundry room. There are not enough machines for the 2 4-story buildings which share them so when the ONE washer breaks or is full of quarters, youre out of luck. 6) When we had serious maintenence problems with the building structure and could not use the water for several days (fortunately we happened to know someone in the building!), we received NO compensation and had to miss many days of work and closely monitor the workers (essentially acting as subcontractors) so they would, for example, replace all the items they broke in the repair process. We also had to clean up after their mess daily. 7) When problems happen over a weekend, no one responds to pages. 8) When our neighbor moved out, they insisted on having the right to show the apartment *20* hours per week without an appointment (which is illegal). 9) One of the workers told me that they are abused by the company and treated as temporary workers who are not required to get health insurance, when they are actually permanent employees who should receive benefits. Shame on owners of this company! If you want a laugh, read their propaganda at http://www.investmentslimited.com/about_us/about_us2.cfm. 10) It takes about 10 calls (including the ones where you get hung up on) before you receive 1 call back. The excuse often is "we didnt have your number" - come on, guys, its on the contract! 11) The fire alarm in our building malfunctioned for several weeks and we had to call the fire department inspectors several times before it was addressed. 12) New tenants tend to be noisy and inconsiderate (party until 2, then sleep through alarm at 5:30 am which wakes up the neighbors instead). 13) Ill close by saying I have the sanitary and fire inspector numbers programmed into my cell phone. I have the sanitary code practically memorized.
If you are foolish enough to live in an Investments Limited building after reading these reviews (why' why would you pay full-service prices for worse than no service'), document, document, document, get legal counsel, and read the on-line advice about How to be a tenant in Massachusetts and avoid getting ripped off (http://www.gis.net/groucho/tenant.html)
