The new ownership has made some good improvements (especially to prevent break-ins), but they're also increasing rent and charging for parking (and pets now), so it is about an even trade-off. This place would actually be pretty good despite the price increase if it wasn't for the on-site handiman. Rumors around the building suggest that the recent fire the building suffered was his doing (at night in the middle of the winter!). Regardless if that is true or not, he never does a good job fixing things (and a lot needs fixing), he always does the minimal amount possible and is generally in a bad mood when something needs fixing (bad combination). He enters w/out letting you know in advance (he knocks as he's turning his master key), comes when you've said that you don't want him to come, makes a mess w/out cleaning up after himself, and so on. And don't you dare report a problem during the evening or weekend (despite the "24 hour on-site maintenance" claim). Even if it is an emergency (I've heard examples of leaks/flooding and the heat not working), not only will he do nothing or next to it, but he will be a complete jerk (I actually heard him yell at a tenant who complained when he said he didn't want to fix the problem b/c it was in the evening). I honestly don't know why the new management hasn't fired him; if they did, then I think this would be a really good place to live (though I'd hesitate to call it "luxury"). If nothing goes wrong in your apartment, then you'll be fine...just hope that you're not in one of the apartments where the heat doesn't work (the handiman's answer to that one--turn on the oven and open it up...and I suppose ignore the gas smell that fills the apartment).
