Recent management change is for the worse :(

My wife and I have lived here since early 2002. We had been generally happy with the place until the property and maintenence managers left (along with much of the staff) and was replaced by a truly surly lot. Before the management change, maintenence was very responsive, and they lived up to their promise of one day service.
Since the change, we?ve had difficulty getting even the simplist things fixed, and the job they?ve been doing has been terrible. The staff seems to have been instructed to try to fix problem as cheaply as possible, and they?ll have to keep coming back trying the next most expensive thing until it?s fixed.
The property managers are now very rude and unwilling to help you with problems you might have, and they have started implementing draconian policies out of no where, such as not being able to store items in the porch store rooms, and taking away parking spots so that they are "reserved" if you want to pay $50 (no one has reserved one, there is no point as there is always ample parking, but many of the closer spots that would be nice on an inclement day can?t be parked in and sit empty, mocking you.) Many of the new policies they are forcing on us were specifically allowed under our lease agreement and they have changed without lease modification, such as not being able to store bikes on balconies or not allowed to . Needless to say, we?re quite upset about this, especially loosing storage space, which is at a premium.
Pros:
- Beautiful setting. For all my negatives, the grounds are kept immaculate, and the setting is very pretty, with lots of trees, grass and ponds.
- A nice cross section of people. I?ve found most of the neighbors friendly, and willing to pitch in (digging out of the snow, etc.)
- At least in the model we?re in, the 2bed2bath, they are a good size and layout.
- Close to commuter rail (see cons though, maybe too close for you! :)
Cons:
- Surly and unhelpful management, both property and maintenance.
- Long response time to problems, and problems often take many visits as they try to fix the problems as cheaply as possible.
- During the weekdays a commuter train runs right next to the buildings every half hour from 6AM to Midnight. It?s not too hard to get used to, but if you?re sensitive to noise, you might want to consider this.
- The buildings are really starting to show their age. Speaking with longtime residents, they seem to have been built about 17 years ago. They haven?t seen much updating since then, and are starting to fall apart. They?ve also had major termite problems. For the kind of rent you pay here, I would like to see more up to date kitchens, fixtures and window treatments.
- Oddly enough, the walls are quite thick and let in little noise from your neighbors, but the same doesn?t seem to be true of the floors. TV and stereo noise seems to penetrate the floor beneath us. I?m guessing they hear us stomping around quite a bit as well.
- Very limited storage space, and no nearby storage solutions. You get one small closet in the basement laundry room. There is a small clothes closet in each room, but they are quite small as well. There is a nice sized linen closet in the master bathroom, but since there is so little other space, you wind up cramming it with other things.
- Rents fluctuate wildly. Our next door neighbors who have exactly the same apartment, pay $180 less than we do, and they moved in a month later. vWhRVi5nYYIuEh4W7K3l
