We moved into Archstone beacuse we had heard some good things about it. The grounds look nice and it is close to the major highways and commuter rail trains to Boston. They lay out the restrictions right away...no grills on the balcony, balcony cannot be used for storage etc. We asked to see our apartment prior to moving in, and the sales person agreed, but when we went to see it the weekend before we moved in, we had to threaten to place a stop payment on our check before they agreed to let us inspect it. Good thing we did, we found the carpets to be in terrible shape and several problems with the apartment (bathroom fixtures, lights not working etc). We documented them and they did fix them prior to our moving in. Generally, they have been responsive to things that need to be fixed, but much to our chagrin (and everyone else in our building) one of the washers in the laundry room has never worked properly. Despite numerous calls from nearly every tenant in our building, it has never been fixed. And now one of the dryers is not working properly....again all calls have been ignored. Depending on which building you live in, you may get an early morning wake up call (about 5:30 to 5:45) from the first passing commuter train in the morning (it only runs weekends). When it crosses the railroad crossing at one end of the complex, they are required by law to blow their horn....that will wake you up!! Lately there have been other problems. They have a health club, but in the winter the heat did not always work and in the summer, no A/C. Again requests to fix it have been met by indifference. If you do move in, be sure to request a top floor apartment!!! We have the misfortune of having the second floor, so we hear the TV from below and the fatboy and his kids stomping around above. Guess they used the best plywood money could buy to build this place. For what you are paying a month, the management group (ARCHSTONE) should be much more responsive. I would recommend looking at other places in the Canton area (Canton Estates, The Arboretum) before choosing Archstone. We are moving when our lease is up. The only caveat I would have is get everything they promise in writing!
