I am a young, white professional who has lived at Harbor Point for three years now. I've been reading the reviews on Harbor Point for quite a while now and sometimes I am really appalled at people?s comments. I?ve seen everything from terrible racial or ethnic prejudice to blatant lies. Harbor Point is a mixed-income, diverse place. Mixed income means that there are a certain percentage of apartments reserved for Section 8 families, while other apartments are reserved for families with the ability to pay market-price. Diverse means that you will be living with Asian, Columbian, Indian, Hispanic, Irish, English, Italian, etc. neighbors. At Harbor Point I?d say maybe a quarter of the population is Section 8 and maybe two-thirds are non-white (but that?s just a snap judgment, I don?t have any hard numbers). If you take the time to read about the history of Columbia Point (the spit of land where Harbor Point is located) you will see the rich history of the area. About twenty years ago, the project at Columbia Point was an area that an ambulance wouldn?t even enter without a police escort. However, that project was demolished and Harbor Point was redone to eliminate the problems created by having such large low-income housing projects. From what I?ve read, lots of thought was put into the design of Harbor Point. Buildings were strategically positioned to maximize water views and to minimize any ?dead space? or back alleys that create a haven for crime. From living at Harbor Point I can see that design in action, there is virtually no place in Harbor Point that can not be seen from an apartment/townhouse window. And virtually every area is well lit.
I have not had a problem with management, maintenance, or crime here at Harbor Point. My apartment has never been robbed, nor has my car, and I have never been personally bothered by anyone at Harbor Point. My apartment is on an upper floor and I have had no problems with noise, as the walls between apartments are think concrete. I have generally been pleased with the heat/AC situation, although sometimes they wait a bit too long before the turn the AC on in the spring. I am very lucky that this is included in the rent and I only pay for electricity, phone, cable, internet. I enjoy having the Harborwalk right next door and I use it nightly in the summer to run past Carson Beach and out to Castle Island in South Boston. I also enjoy having the gym, which I use in the winter months when I can?t run outside. As for people?s complaints about the parking situation, you must understand that we just had almost three feet of snow and I?m sure people are working overtime to try to clear the snow for us to park. I don?t think the situation would be any different if you lived in another part of Boston. All and all I think Harbor Point is a nice hidden gem and I?d recommend it to my friends.

Hi renter1818, This is nicely rendered. I have a similar experience as yours and agree with you mostly. I think it is a nice place...a hidden gem. A waterside apartment is most other cities would probably cost more. Harbor Point is recommendable. |
