I love my apartment

After paying much more for a small, dirty, rundown apartment in Allston, I am really enjoying living in this development. The apartments are in quality condition, with full kitchen appliances (dishwasher, garbage disposal), central air, and personal thermostats. You are not going to find another apartment in the Greater Boston area that will provide these amenities for similar prices. I know this because I looked.
There are a lot of minorities in this development, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. White college students in Allston are much more obnoxious than the noise we have here. Having people who represent so many cultures can help expand our horizons and teach us about other ethnicities. I think everyone who is assuming that people standing around outside are gang members are just prejudiced and applying stereotypes. Yeah, this area can be kind of "ghetto" compared to the Back Bay area, but it's nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. Many people live here due to Section 8 Housing vouchers, which I think a lot of people are prejudiced against. I'm rather proud to be living in an area that provides Section 8 along with luxury apartments, because it gives recipients a chance to live in a safe, comfortable environment and build a life for themselves. There are all ranges of socioeconomic classes and ethnicities represented, which makes life interesting. Appreciate people's differences and move along.
I have not yet used the gym or swimming pool, but plan to in the near future. I love the proximity to the city and to the harbor. It's still very hot here in the summer, but is cooler than areas further inland since we have the breeze from the water.
I haven't yet encountered any trouble with the management, but am not particularly worried about it. Our management company at our last apartment in Allston was terrible and never turned the heat on in the winter. So I'm happy with whatever I can get here.
Related to the heat, it is currently 90 degrees and the air conditioning has not been turned on, which sucks. It's very hot in my apartment right now. But the a/c will be turned on by Wednesday and everything will be happy. The management has not been receptive to my complaints, but I'm just glad to be able to have a/c for the majority of the summer. I know it will be much-appreciated.
The area is well-lit, and as a small white girl I feel comfortable walking around at night. I don't feel unsafe at all.
The store is convenient and generally well-stocked. I've not used the dry-cleaning service but plan to soon. The pizza place is sub-par quality, but convenience often wins out.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this area. I am quite enjoying living here.

Stick around! The Air conditioning will NOT work consistantly and the "quality apartment" will soon turn into a dump...trust me, I was suckered in for three years!!!

Well, I lived there for 2 yrs. AC can be a problem, mainly when it's still hot after Sept 15 and the AC is turned off. Also, there's nothing around the apt complex. I mean good restaurants or shopping mall. Otherwise, the apt was good overall. I also enjoyed staying there. Much cheaper than any other ------ apr in Cambridge or Brighton with much higher rent.
