Quality could depend on where in the property you live

I lived at HP in a 2bed/2bath apt for one year on the south side by UMASS. The apartment itself was fine, not luxury but not the worst either. We had a mice problem that came from somewhere but it never ate any food from our kitchen. They just ran all over the place and my roomate could hear them through her walls. Maint. was called and they put traps everywhere in the kitchen but the problem pretty much persisted.
We had someone throw an egg on our door but maint. was good about it and cleaned it off for us. Demographically it's alot of students and a large number of families. Noise level was never a problem, I never even heard my roomate let alone any of the neighbors. We lived on the seventh floor and in the summer the heat was always trapped in and there is NO circulation. However, this worked in our advantage in the winter b/c I must have turned the heat on once or twice the past winter.
The view is great, we watched the July fourth fireworks at the harbor walk. For those who like to exercise you could use the harbor walk. they also have a fitness center and a seasonal pool that I never personally used. The atmosphere around the property varies. The pizzaria and grocery store frequently has young teenagers hanging about in the summer but not so much in the winter. I personally got sick of the cat calls from immature boys still in high school but I never felt in danger just annoyed. I just walk on the other side. Parking sucks after everyone gets back from work so I paid for the covered garage the whole time I was there.
I think that the living experience varies depending on where you are located in the parking lot. In my building there was some disgusting person that kept on pissing in the elevator every week. It got pretty bad and was so frequent I had to complain. The person stopped the month or two before I moved out but not sure if it was from management influence or not. The laundry room in our building was disgusting! My friend tried to use a dryer once and found a condom in it. My area wasn't too bad but I've heard from others living on the north sides that there are break ins and loud music.
All in all, not a bad place but not luxury as they say. It won't be horrible for a student but I wouldn't want to raise my family here. Also, they WILL RAISE YOUR RENT after the first year. So if you think paying the $1500 for the two bedroom is great it won't be like that the next year so just plan ahead.

Do you feel safe walking to JFK in the evenings? Also is the heat sufficient enough for the winter in most cases? Thank you.

Hi, I've been at HP for 2 years, moving this month.
Walking to JFK is fine if you're intelligent and alert - city smart. I've done it countless times and never had an issue. Take your iPod off and listen/watch your surroundings and you'll be fine.
He is always blasting in my place. I live on the 6th floor and we never turn on the heat in the winter. Summer months you'll pay for that with central AC though... hot hot hot.
Generally, its a big complex. Understand that before you move in and you'll be fine. Maintenance is unresponsive and the general idea is 'deal with it.'
