Princeton Estate - New Building
From: thefastestDate posted: 12/4/2008
Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I stayed in the new building from July 2007 until June 2008.
The unit itself is huge. I was on the top floor with 12 foot ceilings, two bedrooms and baths, and my own washing machine and drier. I loved it. The carpet felt new (the building is only 3 years old), and the walls were fresh painted. As for the actual apartment itself, i can't say enough good things about it.
Noise from one unit to anther was excellent. I never heard anything from the people on either side of me or below me.
Parking was so-so, there is parking in front of the building, but it is always full. You have to park by the building next to it to get a spot (look at the google satellite view to see what i mean).
That being said, i had two complaints, one minor, one major.
The minor complaint was some noise. I was on the backside of the building, away from the parking lot. There is a metal (iron or steel, can't remember) mill behind us, and you can hear the noise from it with windows open. Also, there are a ridiculous amount of spiders outside. I was on the top floor and the webs and spiders were everywhere. There were also tons of the little bigs outside that fly around in swarms at night. Not the fault of management, but something to consider if you ever planned on using the balcony, especially at night.
The major problem was the maintenance staff. I never met them, but on the two occasions i had to talk to them in a full year, it wasn't great. First, the washing machine died. They came in after two days and fixed it, but disconnected the drier vent, so the drier would output all the HOT wet air back into the little laundry closet. It was a fire hazard, and clothes wouldn't dry until i shimmied behind the machine and taped it up myself. Second, there was a big crack in the master bathtub when we moved in. I didn't want to pay for it, so we put it on the paper you sign when you move in relating to all damages and they said it was fine; the people before us did it and it didnt leak. We used it for a months and it didn't leak, until my girlfriend took a bath. the tub drained into the unit below us (i'm sure causing lots of damage). We talked to maintenance and they said we couldn't use the shower until they fixed it. It took over a month to patch the hole, and they did an awful job leaving a big rough discolored section.
One more thing I forgot. When i was shown the apartment, it was during a power outage. The "emergency lights" in the hallways are just for show, they don't actually work so the halls were all dark and scary. Not something i'd expect from a new building.
As long as nothing breaks, this place was awesome.
