Long time resident

I have been a longtime resident. In that time frame we've seen 2 managment companies, vehicle break ins, stolen packages, rude/inconsiderate neighbors, law-defying neighbors, parking shortages, fire alarms, pool closures, etc. These things are a part of life.

The truth is, yes, it was noisy for a while a few years ago. But it was rectified w/ a new management company that installed security cameras to capture those who decided to go against the rules. The latest management company who has been here for a few years now has cleaned up the property quiet well, and when faced w/ not so wonderful or destructive disrespective renters, deals with/evicts them promptly for the sake of the other renters. The pools are maintained, though the filters are not run on Sunday's as the office is closed. The gym could be updated but is still functional and has a few newer pieces. As for prior comments made about the jacuzzi, etc...whenever it is out of service it's usually because some one has let their children play with the buttons or done the "nasty" in it. Some people are pigs...most places rent if you look good on paper/credit/etc....it doesn't tell them that you let your trash pile up or you have a hankering for lude and lacivious behavior in public places. Management can't be held accountable for all of it. They put a camera in, can't do much more than that until/unless they catch the ones doing it!

Another point to take into consideration is that there is a single family development on the same street after the complex. When we moved in the kids were small...now they all have licenses and drive like mini-maniacs. Some suspect them in some of the happenings over the years but the management office is limited as to what they can do. I will say that the new mgmt has upgraded the tennis & basketball courts and put up signs stressing that they are to be used by residents only. The local kids from the development have taken notice of this and if they see someone walking up from the buildings they usually leave w/o incident/aggravation as they should.

The management people are tough, however, they are not stupid and can be reasoned with if spoken to in an intelligent, respectful manner. If you clearly make your point w/o being a tyranical maniac, your issue may actually be seen and acted on.

I have not had any trouble to speak of with the maintainence people. Always been helpful, but then again we only call when we have an emergency. We tend to change our lightbulbs ourselves. And if we need specialty lightbulbs (mirror in bathroom), they have been very accommodating in providing to us so we can put in.

The landscaping company they use is pretty good. Only complaint would be that they sometimes cut the hedges a little crooked, but not a major prob.

This location is good for highway use, city living in a semi-country setting. There is local wildlife (skunks, squirrels, fox, birds, bunnies & occasional deer) and is quiet most nights (save for Superbowl Sunday & 4th of July) Has a great courtyard that doubles as an awesome hill for sledding in the winter (when it snows). It also has a few other large sections of yard that can be used for playing catch/toss, etc. The Fall is pretty and there are some crab apple trees remaining from the orchard that the land once was prior to buildings. It's rolling landscape is both pretty and serene the majority of the time. You can also fly a kite most of the year in many places throughout the property w/o getting them caught in trees.

It's not a dream house, it's an apartment. With other people to deal/live with & around you. If you treat it and those around you with respect, you will recieve it back more often than not. If you don't, complain to mgmt. More often than not they will do something.

Another tip, get to know your neighbors...not life stories, just their names and say an occasional "hi, how are you doing'" It's relatively painless, very old fashioned, but hugely irreplacable in case of emergencies or for accountability reasons. It might make "Frank from upstairs" to be reconsider his carpentry project if "John from downstairs" is sleeping in some Saturday morning from working a double shift the night before. Sounds corny, quirky, and wierd but a little familiarity and respect can mean the difference between peaceful coexistence or shear unadulterated hell.
