My husband and I lived at Putnam Village for three years. I am from the area. He was in the service, and I worked in commercial banking. We liked Putnam Village. He was transferred out of state. Several years later we were transferred back. We applied at Putnam Village. We knew about the rumoured so called $40,000 income requirement they set, but having lived there before and having been excellent residents we did not think there would be a problem. Now however I was not working and my husband's income was approximately $38,0000. We applied and received a reject letter much to our disgust and shock. I called them. The fact we had been good residents was not good enough for them. The man blamed it on their $40,000 income requirement and said they found people making less than that would not be happy in their neighborhood! How they would know such a ridiculous claim, I do not know. What foolishness. They had that silly snob rule back years ago when we made that much thanks to two incomes. The last year we lived there I was a stay at home and we had far less income. We were quite happy.

I called about the rejection and the manager asked if I planned to get a job. I now two young children, and did not. We had no money problems, and we had excellent credit. I told him I was a stay at home mother. He said unfortunately the excellent credit wouldn't help because of the $40,000 rule. He said the problem was with the Navy because they did not pay more. NO MAYFAIR, THE PROBLEM IS YOU. The Navy didn't come up with the foolish rule. You gave us no respect or consideration to us despite the fact we were excellent past residents who enjoyed our years at Putnam Village.

I hope others can see a problem with their policy. Shame on them. Serve your country and get a kick in the pants. Not to mention we were excellent past residents with excellent credit. We ended up moving about a half an hour away to Royal Credit in Warwick, RI. The rent was actually about $200 more per month, and the neighborhood just as nice, arguably nicer. We had no trouble getting an apartment from them.

That's odd that they don't take military because a search of the Massachusetts state sex offender registry shows that they are housing a level three sex offender (the worst offenders where their picture, home and work addresses available). That shows how bad this place is if they will rent to major sex offenders but not brave military personnel.
