The last Home Savers Council Election,Feb. 17,2006

The last election at GFG on February 17,2006 of The Home Savers Council was totally misleading in my opinion.
Each person who votes is given a piece of paper with names of the people who are running. It said to vote for no more than three. It does not state anywhere that you can vote for just one,it is very misleading.
It seems the same people keep getting voted in year after year unless they happen to step down.
One ballet with three names checked off,one vote for this person and this person and this person. Very few votes came in with only one name checked off on it. It was noticed by long time residents that only one name was checked off on very few ballots. There was a quiet stir which lasted briefly. Someone asked why there was only one name checked off. The reply was that you can vote for only one person. The ballot is misleading and so was the election. It is not clear to voters that you can only vote for one person. So for almost every person that got a vote two others received one also. It seemed only very few people were aware that you can vote for just one person. The ballot is very misleading specially if you are a first time voter or may not speak English well. I did not see any written in Spanish and there are a good number of people who live there that are Spanish speaking people.
The election and the voting process are misleading. In most cases any persons belonging to a board who are elected by the people usually have so many terms that they can be in office. At Greenfield Gardens that does not seem to be the case.
There are over 200 apartment dwellings and only 81 votes were counted, which means out of a possible 200 or more voters only 81 turned out. Obviously that is less then 50% of possible voters.
This is a quote from the paper that was handed out the very next day.
"Election day was a success! 81 people came to vote! Ballots were counted and a tally of votes were taken publicly."
Total votes were as followed from the three who won and the two that did not win.
67,49,48,34,12. The total of votes when you add all these numbers up is 210. Only 81 people voted but the total vote is 210. Anyone who has ever voted in a town, state or federal election knows that you vote for one candiate in each section of the ballot. It said do not vote for more than 3 people on this ballot. I find it appalling that whoever wrote the ballot or were instrumental in the ballot written as it was, either has no concept of how a proper election is run or they dismiss all proper protocol.
I have never heard of an election whether is was in grammar school or voting for the President of our country where you vote for more than one person. If there is more than one seat open you still vote for one candidate and the three with the most votes are elected.
Truly I am appalled that in a modern society that things such as this still go on and people sit idly by and watch and do nothing about their rights or the proper way to do things.
Ignorance is not bliss it is laziness or unwillingness to either stand for your rights or simply not care what they are.

The reason I do not recommend it has nothing to do with management it is the Council.
