Whatever they do, or however they do it, Avalon consistently makes apartments look like institutions/jail cells--even with brand new construction. So many other apartment communities have come up with architectural plans that enhance the grounds, bring warmth to the structures, achieve a community fell, but never with Avalon.

The upside to this is that more apartments will be available at discount rate as collecting market rate for this complex would be rare.

The former use as Metropolitan State Hospital was much more inviting.

Future residents beware. Do not fall for the glitz and glamour of the leasing office cosmetically. This community was a hospital for mentally challenged individuals and has been retrofitted. Construction quality is bad and service is at best - below average. You will get a lot of "polite lip service" and not a whole lot more. Negotiate hard for your rent before you sign, they give different pricing to everyone and will grab a few more bucks from you if they feel they can get it. Utility bills are crazy high. Do not fall for what the leasing agent tells you to get you to sign up. Heat at 150, water at 150 and electricity between 200 and up a MONTH!! Swimming pool is poorly maintained, AC frequently breaks down in the units and for all your aggravation, you get the feeling that once you have signed and moved in, "who cares" Good luck with your house hunt and believe me, there are much better communities available for the exhorbitant rents this community dictates. A very frustrated resident at Avalon at Lexington hills
