Typical community living...poor construction, cold corporate staff members, and somewhat overpriced, but not terrible

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I have to say, all the reviews with the exception of the "i love it here" are all DEAD ON - Almost to the point where I was laughing as I read them. I've faced things ranging from no hot water (it was warm) for over two weeks, no A/C for about a week and a half (this was, of course, during one of the hottest weeks of the summer), crazy water bills which have now been corrected, and I too, had the bay window blinds fall on my head. I was the first to live in my apartment, which is great because of the fact that no one else had lived their prior - obviously. What wasn't so great was the almost comical amount of problems I faced within the first 6 months. The rent was reasonable when I first moved in, but then they jacked it up about 10 percent, which is a lot when you are talking 1700/mo. Parking is great for me, I've never had problems and do not rent any garage space. The inside of the buildings is always clean and well kept, as is the grounds for the most part (except for the occasional giant piles of dirt and sod in the parking lot). The gym is small but convenient, it is very nice having a concierge that will hold your packages and call you to let you know they've arrived. The heat and A/C is noisy, it uses a forced air system with the main fan unit right in the middle of the apartment - think of how your car AC works... when it is on, you are good to go, when it clicks off the temp goes right back up. Kitchen is great, with new appliances, plenty of outlets, ample cabinet space, and decent dishwasher - however, the fridge is very 'budget' for a "luxury apartment" in my opinion. Maintenance staff is friendly, but they try to fix every problem with a Dremel tool and pocket knife. I've stopped calling and just take things into my own hands. It's tough to focus on the good things but there are definitely as many good as there are bad. The community is very safe from what I can see (though it _is_ Lexington), the community is now fairly quiet seeing as the construction has ended, and there are no rodent/insect/etc. issues. In fact, in the year I've lived here I don't think I have ever even seen a spider or any other insect in my apartment. Will I renew again' I don't know - probably not. This is my first experience in an Avalon and is pretty much what I expected - all they really care about is the bottom line.
