Okay, let me take a deep breath.
If you are thinking of moving to this apartment complex. Think really hard about it. I moved here with my wife to get our first apartment together. It looked like it had some promise. We liked how the grounds looked, we liked the model apartment they showed us with the nice Rug, and cabinets, and all updated appliances in this Model apartment. We liked the thought of having a patio with a sliding glass Door. We liked how close it was to get onto the connector.
Now, upon moving into apartment, we discovered it sort of looked like the model, but without any updated appliances, and not that great of a rug. There were a couple of problems with the apartment when we moved in, and we gave them the notice to have them fixed, which they were.
A short while later, franken foot moved into an upstairs apartment, and we could hear him all the time move around. I expect a little noise from above, when living on a first floor, but not every foot drop that was made! This man also took a shower during his first week without a curtain, and the water came pouring down out of our bathroom ceiling fan. When he was confronted my Cabot Maintenace guy, he gave the man a hard time about not being able to buy a shower curtain! Also our neighbors that moved in next to us kept the heat up at the max, and at times during the winter, we were literally boiling in our own bedroom. The neighbors heat would seep through the wall, and raise the inside temp of our room above 90 degrees! This is with our heat off! Meanwhile our living room had a huge tempeture difference mostly because the sliding glass doors were not sealed all the way, and I could feel drafts coming through them all the time. During the summer months, it was reversed. The AC is in the bedroom so it kept the bedroom cool, but it did not cool the living room at all, and it was boiling hot to just stay in the living room! We also had some neighbors that lived in the same building that would have weekend parties until the wee hours of the morning on their balconies!
The commuting back and forth to this place is not good at all. The roads leading into them are very narrow, and really should only be one way especially when you have cars parking on both shoulders of them. The winter time months are not fun driving here, you have to guess when to accelerate forwards because a big pile of snow is blocking your view. It is just a nightmare situation to get into the complex, and leave. For the most part they do keep the parking area plowed and taken care of though.
Inside of our apartment during the winter months, there was an ant problem. They called an exterminator, and they came and put one ant trap down on top of the cabinets in the kitchen, as well as this ant jelly type poison around the bathroom. I think the ants really loved that stuff, because they always came back for more. To the day we left in February of 2009, there was still an ant infestation, and that apartment was supposedly on the list to be seen, but it had been about two months since we were put on the list again. So who knows.
Also if you love fire alarms, and kids running and banging on your doors at times, then you will love this place. We've had kids constantly knock and run, and let me tell you, these kids that lived here weren't too bright because they would knock, and then run out the back door, which we lived next to! All we did was look out the sliding glass door, and see them snickering and running up the brick road. Like I said,... not too bright. We've reported it, but what can you do. The fire alarms were constantly going off, and you have to evacuate and such. I wouldn't be surprised if it was connected to the kids as well playing around with that.
When they decided to raise the rates on us to above 900 per month for apartment, it was time to get out. This little apartment is not worth 900 a month, especially being in such a bad location overall(buried behind narrow streets), too many faults with the apartment structure(can hear neighbors, drafty doors, at the mercy of your neighbor if they love Heat, usually the Indian families), also the laundry room is almost impossible to use on the weekends. Not enough machines, and you have to go get your own quarters from somewhere. Dryers always breaking. So if you got your clothes after 45 minutes, sometimes they would still be soaked. It happened to us more then a few times, and it isn't fun reloading a dryer, and wasting another hour waiting. We just went back and used the local laundromats after awhile.
My advice is if you are currently looking for an apartment, keep looking. Try craigslist( Like I did) and you can usually find great deals on their from people who independently own their own condo, or house. They usually never raise the rent on you yearly, and the rent is much cheaper then a community facility. You can usually get in for a cheaper up front amount as well. The apartment I found is 1,000 percent better everything then Cabot Crossing, and is more then a Hundred dollars cheaper in Andover. Keep Looking!
I forgot to mention as well, that if you like Hot showers, find another location. Unless you want to wake up at 6am everyday, to get a chance at getting some hot water. Your out of luck.
