After extensive research and a two-month search for a decent, affordable place to live in downtown Lowell, I just moved into River Place towers.
The benefits:
1. bang for the buck. $723 for a decently sized one bedroom, with heat and hot water included is a pretty good deal.
2. building has a very good maintenance staff. I saw my apartment when the former tenant had just moved out and it was a mess. Two weeks later- I had brand new carpet, a brand new fridge, brand new sinks and kitchen drawers, fresh paint and a brand new ac unit.
3. The management staff is friendly and easy to get a hold of.
4. on-site parking. I used to live by the Auditorium, with on-street parking (which turned into no parking every time there was an event in the auditorium). it's a huge relief to have a place to park no matter when you come home.
5. the apartment is really cute, and has river views from all the windows.
The problems:
1. there is no guest parking. If someone comes to visit- they have to pay for parking in the garage.
2. the intercom system only works with a landline phone. If you do not have a landline, you will have to have your visitors call you, so you can go downstairs to open the door. That's kinda silly, isn't it'
3. they have a strict rule about apartment keys and access keys. No matter how much I asked (I even offered them a second key deposit for it!), I could not get a second set of keys because I'm the only one on the lease. given the situation with the intercom, that's really uncomfortable!
