Spacious apartment, *worst* management
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 8/15/2006
Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
We lived here for nearly 10 months. The apartment was nice: really spacious, clean, new carpeting and freshly painted walls. I am told the building is only about 20 years old. Well located close to the T. The manager was very nice, and got things done.
Within days of our moving in, the manager left. There was no replacement for months. Basic service requests went unheeded. The laundry machines stopped after eating quarters. There was no response from management.
The sign on the door said "office open from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM", but I could not find anybody there at any time. Written messages were discarded. Faxes were discarded. Their voicemail box overflowed, and we could not even leave a message on the phone!
I threatened to withold rent. They threatened to take me to court. I asked them to try. They fixed a few things, including putting in new washers on our floor.
Then, we had to move before our lease ended. It was plain nightmare. I had faxed evidence of advance notice, and a letter from the main office that acknowledged receipt of the fax. Yet, their manager kept insisting that I had not provided written notice of wanting to move out! Their temporary staff was ridiculous, unprofessional, lazy. She would take latters from me in person, and later claim that she never received anything from me.
I was glad when I found a replacement to take over my lease. The two of us played a nice version of tag with the management: They kept telling him it was OK to move in, but they needed written notice from me first! 7-8 faxes later, I got through their thick skulls. However, they forced the new tenant to sign a new lease with a ridiculous rent increase (after previously agreeing to maintaining the rent at the current level at least until the end of my lease period). The manager openly stated that he was letting me go only because he could get more money from the next guy.
I was bracing myself for the long-drawn battle for my security deposit, but I miraculously received it at the end of one month (the Massachusetts-stipulated deadline).
Most of the other posts here about the management are true. They suck, and displayed a greed that was amazing to watch. I was told that the laundry facilities are provided as a courtesy, and that they are not responsible for them. If I did not want to use them, I was free to go elsewhere for my laundry!
When I asked them why they called themselves luxury apartments, I was met with stony silence.
