Don't Bother Moving Here

Lies: When we were being shown the building, the staff stated that people rarely used the shared washers and dryers here. The truth is that they are always in use, frequently break down and the simple task of doing laundry has now become a nightmare. Often one does not know the washer has broken down until your clothing begins to smell like a sewer. Then it is too late. Seriously, they need to upgrade and maintain the washers and dryers in this place.
Hearing your neighbors: They tell you the walls are very thick and sound proof. Not so true. Especially in the bathroom, where I can hear my neighbor gagging and coughing up phlegm daily. It s gross. If you are loud in bed with your partner, yes people can hear you from the hallway.
Exercise: In the gym area, the fruit fly infestation was quite nasty, the gym stinks, the sauna has yet to work and the racquetball rooms stink and aren t cleaned often. Not only do these rooms smell, the kids often turn off the timer light switches, which are located outside of the racquetball rooms, so you are left stumbling in the dark to find the door.
The kids: Yes, there are many unsupervised foul mouthed children running around causing much havoc. There is a high rocky area that they like to hide and toss things at passers by as well. Beware if you are out for a walk. It was quite amusing when the one foul mouthed kid fell through the ice on the pond the other month though
The smokers: The smell is awful and I m guessing they disable their smoke detectors inside their apartments. If they aren t smoking in the apartments, then the people above are tossing their ashes, matches and cigarette butts onto the balconies and people below. Nasty.
Dog Feces: There s lots of it. If you go out for walks, be careful, it will be on the sidewalk and everywhere else. The dog owners aren t very considerate.
The pool. An off smell and 200 pound woman in a thong. No need to say more.
The snow removal: Lots of ice and there are these huge snow banks created by the plowing in the parking lots and I ve slipped up many times. They do make sure the office area is properly cleaned, but everywhere else is dangerous. Go figure.
Rats: Big enough to eat your cat.
Trash Removal: They do it daily in this building, but seriously, the huge splatters of food that have been on the door since last March really need to be cleaned off. It s gross and the room stinks. It s pretty obvious where the food is, you would normally put your hand in the area to open the door. It s not hidden. Sheesh.
The hallway smells: Everyone s cooking may not be perfect, but at dinnertime the hallways smell like rotting cat mixed with overcooked pasta. It s foul.
This place was shown as being luxury and it is not. There are other places to live that are cheaper, safer and cleaner. Do not move here. The old management wasn't that great and the new management is rude and acts as if they wish we weren't here.
Update: They have lost my rent check and act as if I'm lying and the problem is mine. They are very unprofessional and obviously lack any organization skills. I moved here in Feb 2007 and it is now June 2008 and the same garbage is smeared all over the garbage room door. You can not touch it with your hands because it is so nasty. It stinks and I have complained by letter *AND* over the phone and they have not bothered to clean the place. The Laundry rooms are always nasty and I've found signs of drug use in the emergency stairwell.
Kids and older teens are sneaking in the back gate, which I've advised the management of. They are so uptight about who comes into the front gate and then don't fix the back gate where anyone can walk in. Drug dealers have also moved in, be careful around the playground, their visitors park beside it.

Totally agree! This new management acts as if they wish we would just disappear; they say they value their "residents" but they treat them extremely rudely and ignore their questions, either putting them on "hold" or just hanging up! I never knew of any legimate business that treated customers as rudely as this bunch! It's true about the smells, too, the plumbing is old (from 1972) and when someone is in the bathroom, you can tell in the hallway, not to mention the disgusting mess of trash (the previous management company emptied the trash twice a day; once in the morning and once in the afternoon!) With these people, you're lucky if it gets picked up even once a day, they've cut back on EVERYTHING! It isn't safe, anymore. The security guards were dismissed; computers and cable boxes were stolen from the club after they were let go; management doesn't care and will not call them back. Do not feel safe living here now; management does not give a hoot about residents' safety and well-being. They tell new renters there's a social director and activities and there's NONE of that since the new company took over it's just LIES, LIES!

I have to disagree with you on the previous management company. I use to work there when it was Equity. 35 million dollars of renovations went into that place. Roofs, facades, deck coatings, community room and functions. Staffing was strong, knowledable and friendly. Although not everyone liked us, we cared. We worked very hard to take care of the place and would never allow these items to be left broken and condemned. All these complaints are great but how about getting together and standing up for what your rights and value for the monthly rent you pay. I saw the article that was published in the Boston Globe about how Metropolitan Properties of American were going to bring even more value to Grananda Highlands and make it a quality way of living. Go back to the newspapers and say that what they were told has not happened and that they actually have become slumlords. I loved working there and making that a place we could be proud of. No thongs at the pool, no imployable living conditions. We could not fulfill all promises but we sure tried hard to do what we could. Shame on all of you for not becoming united. I am saddened every time I hear how things have become. Energy and determination were with Equity. How about standing up for what you DESERVE!

Where should we start Ms/Mr Anonymous? We have done everything in our control to make things better (lodging formal complaints with Management). Now, should we come on streets and protest? sorry mam/sir, we pay hefty rents for our luxary, safety and spending quality time with our families and not wasting our time protesting. If we don't get what we expect we move on. If you don't like a shoe in 'payless' you go to Macys and buy it. You don't give lectures to 'payless' why they don't make good shoes or type you like.
And about writing reviews, I think, we are entitled to alert future residents about the problems we have faced while living here. So you be ashamed of us..who gives a damn... we dont have any personal affection with "Granada Highlands" that you may have since you worked here. On a different note, Why don't you join back and make this a better place to live?

I have been living here for the past year in a half and let me tell you its not right but its ok! I was STUCK in the elevator and let me tell you it wasn't fun. For the amount of money I pay I believe we deserve better service! As a corporation your duty is to delight your resident guest NOT by making stone entrance ect its by providing guest services to suit the needs. I find the bus situation extreamly disturbing I am always working and dont have a fit schedule if you know people comute please assist perhaps offer a shuttle bus to malden station we pay enough money to atleast cover that let me tell you I dont feel like paying rent and every year noticing it races and there is no service improvements all I see from this company its stone this stone that apearance this and that ohhh STOP it with the fakeness lets be realistic wouldn't you like REAL insted of FAKE. I am considering the move and currently working on it. Its funny because I am a simple hard working person I work for one of bostons famous and luxurious brand new place and Iwork really hard on delighting each and every guest by action not by words maybe you should pass this along and creat some changes.
