I lived at 82 Summer for around 5 years. I would start off by mentioning that it has hard to give a good review to anybody in the renting business. Having said that, Interstate Properties is not an exception to the rule. Pros: good location, relatively clean, covered parking, rent doesn't increase after a year. Cons: cheap construction, paper thin walls (you can hear your neighbor peeing or his/her steps), awful neighbors, never clean the sidewalk after snow, dishonest landlords. Yes, in my opinion Rosemary and Sal Palumbo are very dishonest people. They will ask you for an administrative fee and key deposit that they will never return to you. Think twice before choosing this place.

Amazing that someone would live in an apartment for five years and be so totally miserable. Just maybe it was not so bad but pretty comfortable. That's probably why the building is always FULL and never an empty unit..Key deposits are always returned but you apparently must be the exception to the rule. So return the keys for your deposit.

That's a pretty general reply to my comments. Why not go through all of them. Why not? because they are all true. Of course, my key deposit was not returned...and of course I did return my keys. It is probably true that the buildings are often full, but this is a reflection of the housing (and rental) market in the area. That understandable considering the cost of a house in the area, and that over 100,000 students pass through Boston every year. Also, the building has an excellent location. Again, don't be fool by the Palumbo's sweet talk. They are dishonest. But that doesn't matter to them. They are devoted church-goers who drive luxury cars. At the end of the day, they sleep peacefully. After all, that's what religion is for.

Anonymous, I understand your situation as I am in the same one. I lived at 82 Summer Street as well. Overall, I had no issues with the Palumbos until it came to money. My key deposit was not returned either. Keyhappy, I see you are skeptical so I will explain how this can happen. I gave Rosemarie two key deposits and I had two keys for my apartment. The day I moved out, I gave her my keys and I gave her my address so that she can send me a check for my two key deposits. First, Rosemarie ineptly sent the check to the wrong address. So when I followed up, she sent it to the right address. However, I could not deposit the check because the check was not signed AND it was for only one key deposit. Before I moved out, I wrote Rosemarie a letter detailing that I am to receive two key deposits sent to a particular address and even included photocopies of the cancelled checks. We even discussed that I am to receive two key deposits and she acknowledged it. After several phone calls, I finally spoke to her and she said that she would not return my second deposit and went on a rant about how she has too many keys for the building. She was unbelievably shady and unprofessional. I called Sal directly, explained the situation and he said he would talk to her. I never heard back from him and, mysteriously, he would never pick up the phone when I followed up. I gave them many chances to be ethical and give me my money back but they failed at every opportunity. Rosemarie wanted me to mail her the check back and she would sign it and send it to me. She has not proven that she can be trusted so I refused to mail the check to her as this is the only proof I have that Interstate she even attempted to give me my deposit(s). I told her to cancel the existing check and send me a new one. She refused. They pettiness goes on. Keyhappy, this is how a slick landlord can withhold your money. I live quite far away and dealing with this people has been a ridiculous waste of time.
