Expensive - can't stay beyond the first lease

This apartment is great if you are brand new to the area and need a starting point to get to know the area. But once you know your way around, it's time to look for something affordable.
Our apartment actually a 1 bedroom with a loft.
When we moved here a year ago, we only had two afternoons to find an apartment (and were staying in NH, so didn't have time to see many places). Of the 3 managed ones we looked at this was definitely the best (another near the Solomon Pond Mall was the same price but even lower quality).
We are leaving when our lease is up because of the price. The monthly payments right now are way too high, we simply cannot afford it for another year. We made this decision months before we were told that rent would be $100 higher for a second year's lease (don't get the first month and a half free the second time around).
The apartment did suit our immediate needs. Make sure you get that first month and a half rent free when you move in, in which case this place works well for the first year while you get to know your way around.
Noise:
Our building is usually quiet. Not because of sound-proofing, but because the people who live in it are quiet. Occassionally neighbors do crank up the TVs or stereos or simply hold conversations. All those noises carry through the walls.
Safety outside:
My biggest safety worry outside is from the cars zooming through the parking lot. The lighting isn't always the best (like by the mailboxes) and drivers don't always pay attention to pedestrians.
Construction:
Looks really good in a walk through. But as you live here you realize that it was still put together economically.
Appliances:
Appliances are pretty nice compared to other places we looked. Gas stove, sturdy washer and drier, fridge with ice maker.
The heater is weird. It waits until the temperature drops 5 degrees below it's setting then kicks in on high heat (until it's 10-15 degrees higher than the setting). Which means you wake up in the middle of the night to kick off all those extra blankets you had to pile on when you went to bed. Heater is very noisey too (but it will drown out the noise from your neighbor's tv).
Office Staff
Has always been helpful and attentive when ever I stopped by.
