I suppose it could be worse

I've lived in two different buildings in this property. The first building was very noisy and full of children who would actually kick my door to see if I had any kids to come out and play. I tried to speak to my neighbors but they were either uninterested and/or did not speak English (or want to speak English to me).
When my lease was up and I decided not to renew, I spoke with the management and let them know my reasons. Since money was a consideration for me (and the grounds are actually quite beautiful), I accepted their offer to move me into a larger apartment for the same rent, in a quieter building. This second apartment, where I currently live, is a little less noisy but I can still hear the children from the apartment upstairs and across the hall when they start to cry. In this building also the children are allowed to run through the halls and ride their bicycles in the laundry room. I realize there's nothing the management can do about this, but it's still frustrating.
The rent goes up considerably each year, as I'm sure it does everywhere, and the fees for the laundry machines has almost doubled since I've been here. The machines are in disrepair and the wall paper in the building hallways is peeling and fraying. My apartment is nice on the inside, but I do sometimes come home to find they've done "preventive maintenance" and swapped all the lightbulbs for fluorescent and painted over any mildew in the bathroom (leaving paint drips in the tub and on my toiletries).
There is a very nice security guard at the entrance of the complex who waves everyone through. Every so often he asks my visitors to sign in. They do place stickers on the driver's side windows of visitor cars parked in non-visitor areas. And, most annoyingly, I once called the leasing office on the first of the month to tell them that I was stranded in an airport on a business trip and could not drop off my rent check that day; could I please pay by phone' They said no, it would be no problem if I came home on the second and dropped it off in the morning. So, I dropped my rent check in the mail slot and proceeded to my apartment, where I did find a "notice to quit" on my door. When I called to follow up, they said that I could disregard it since I had paid already, but it would remain on my file because they can make no exceptions for extenuating circumstances. I guess the lesson is "pay your rent early," but if they couldn't extend a little consideration to me, it would have been nice to tell me that instead of saying it would be fine.
Overall it is very pretty and the floor plans are nice. Bugs do get in, the children are very loud (and there is no playground area so they are frequently in the parking lots), and it is hard to meet your neighbors and become friends. vWhRVi5nYYIuEh4W7K3l
