I was a resident of Royal Crest until a last year. When we vacated the apartment no one came to do the inspection. A few days later after we vacate we get a $200 fine for the countertop damages.
When asked what the damages were for they deny showing us the apartment and tell us we had Scratched/Burnt mark on countertop.
When we newly moved into the apartment like 3 years ago I had mentioned about scratches on the countertop. After calling them for like 10 times they tell us it is too late and hardly give us 2 days to payoff the fine or else it goes to collection.
I was in a total surprise when they asked us to pay for something which we did not damage. I know this as I hardly cook....I might have usedthe kitchen only like 10% of time... The countertops were in the same state as they were given to us before.
I have stayed in various Apartments over 10 years now and have never payed any kind of fees like .In total the management staff is rude. They know all kinds of tricks to get money out of you. I would no recommend anyone to go there. I am totally happy that I moved out of there.

I would recommend that you have your attorney send them a notice. They would have to legally stop it from going to collection, and also prove that you caused the damage.
I hope you still have the inventory checklist that you got when you moved in.
