Could be better

Stonegate is a luxury apartment complex in a rural setting with a beautiful exterior. The technology is superb, the floor plans are nice, and they've made great use out of the available space. My husband and I rent a 2 bedroom, 2 bath on top of the hill, and pay a lot of money for it.

However, I have a few gripes. They apparently have no applicant screening process. I would expect that if you pay a lot of money for an apartment, then you would be living with people in a community who are in a similar economic situation. Instead, as a young couple in our early twenties, we have to deal with a barrage of children on a regular basis, people with dogs who don't take care of them, and apartments that I swear have 10 people living in them. A warning for young couples, newlyweds, single working, and people with busy schedules who are looking for a peaceful place to come home to at the end of the day - you probably won't find it here. That's what I was looking for when I moved here. My husband and I both have very busy work schedules and needed a relaxing place to live, in a quiet setting with nice amenities. We were willing to pay the extra money for it. However, in the summertime, the pool is always full of screaming children...there are always kids running around in the exercise room...kids running around in the middle of the street...dogs barking...people leaving dogs in their apartments alone all day...teenagers having parties...teenagers hanging out outside the apartment doing God knows what...kids riding their bikes into your cars and playing ball in the hallway. A more efficient screening process for this type of "luxury lifestyle" would be nice.

Also - it is nice having utilities included, but they are bottom of the line. The stove is a cheap piece of crap that doesn't have a self-cleaner and practically breaks down every time I use the broiler. The dishwasher is terrible and flimsy. The washer and dryer are also flimsy. The sink is very small, and the kitchen lacks space in general. The carpets are terrible to the point where we are vaccuming every day. The tiles soak up grime way too easily. The electric bill is absolutely insane. The walls are relatively soundproof...for example, if my husband is in the next room, I can't hear him. However, you can't block out barking dogs and screaming children no matter how soundproof the walls are. Parking is very convenient where I'm living, but for some of the lower-income apartments at the bottom, its pretty crowded. Its much better than when I lived in Boston, anyway. Its nice to have parking right in front of your complex.

Stonegate is a great idea, and could have been pretty spectacular...but they messed up in some areas.

yet you recommend it to people?? Utilities are NOT included, appliances are. I think that's what you meant. Our building only has a few small children and a couple of babies and it's nearly completely full. We don't have the same noise that you have, but our building has it's own problems. I'd almost take the noisy children over the mice that are currently taking over our apartment.

I'm sorry to hear about all of the noise problems you have and the mice for the other person. But I have to tell you, as someone with children, I find it very offense that you assume if a couple has children that they don't want or can't afford a luxury lifestly! My husband and I work very hard and have beautiful, well behaved children! We both work very hard and are, I'm sure, much busier than you and your new husband. We both have executive positions and like peace, quiet and family time when we come home. We are living here because my husband was recently transferred to Boston and we didn't know the area well enough to invest in real estate yet! My point is....don't assume just because someone has children that they're not in the "same kind of economic situation" or BETTER THAN YOU!!!!! Of course as you grow out of your infancy all of this will become clear to you. You have a lot of growing up to do!!!! I hope that if you ever have children that you don't have to listen to some immature person like yourself degrade them just BECAUSE they are children. As a parent you won't like it.

As a mother of a toddler, I have to agree that large families with 3 or more kids living in a small 2 or 3 bedroom apartment is a little rough for neighbors. I think kids should be able run around and play...and a small apartment isn't the place to do that. Last summer, I walked outside to see a seven year old slam his skateboard into the side of my car doing a flip. I was furious that he wasn't being watched, but didn't say anything because I didn't want to cause trouble. I agree that the above person probably shouldn't have used "similar economic situation," but I wouldn't want to have to live next to a group of college students - and would probably also be pretty upset if the neighbor's kids were playing ball in the hallway.
