I've lived in worse apartments, but there are a lot of problems that should not be present in a complex that supposedly has "24 hour maintenance."

* CUSTOMER SERVICE: Terrible. Service requests ignored, not entered into the computer. Once I came in and asked for it to be entered in front of me and was refused for no reason. Later I checked and she had not entered my requests. I've tried asking to speak with Julie, the properties manager, and am always refused access to her. If you get the bad employee, she pretends to enter your request and never does. There's a line in the lease that CLAIMS you will get a discount if you're unsatisfied. I cannot get anyone to acknowledge this when I have an issue.

* MAINTENANCE: Of the following issues, none were followed up within 2 weeks time: broken air-conditioning, flood damage, broken intercom, request for peephole. Multiple requests were made during the summer for the air-conditioning to be fixed. It's been 3 months since the intercom broke, 4 requests, and we're still waiting for it to be repaired. To be fair, I cannot be certain this is a maintenance issue, because I'm fairly sure the requests are not being entered by the office staff!! The few times the office has notified maintenance of a problem, they seem to address it very quickly.

* SAFETY: Other tenants prop the security doors. I find them left open at 2am.

* PARKING: They do NOT monitor the parking stickers. After the ice storm, they left trees strewn across the parking spots for a week.

* NOISE: Walls are very thin. This is typical of most apartments, so good luck finding any complex without this problem. One of our neighbors leaves her porch open and her dog sits on her porch and barks at everyone.

* SANITARY: Garbage disposal spits up into the shower. No idea how they managed to construct the pipes so they do that. Many insects, but since I'm moving to AZ and almost every review of AZ apartments says they get scorpions, comparatively I find these crawlies pretty tame. If you walk in at night through the "back yard" of the apartment, you are likely to step in dog poop -- some of the dog owners don't pick up unless they think they'll be caught. The dumpsters are emptied too infrequently and at night a skunk patronizes the trash piled around them.

* MYSTERIOUS EXTRA CHARGES: I think they have something being charged to our electricity meter that isn't ours. We have been watching our KW usage, and it went UP during the winter ('!'!'!') even though heat and hot water supposedly are included, and we've spent a lot of time with all our lights off are hardly anything using electricity this winter. I suspect we are being charged for the shared laundry room, which we never use because I'd rather haul my laundry out somewhere else than wait for 5 1/2 hours for a turn at the one unbroken machine, and then have it leak all over the place. Besides, we have to pay, so there shouldn't be electricity charges to the apartments from the laundry room, should there''

* PRICING: This one goes in the GOOD column. Face it: you're living in Marlborough. Even though it's stretching my budget to live here, this is WAY below the average Marlborough apartment rate.

* ROOM: Also in the GOOD column. My sister thinks it's small. She's never lived anywhere except with our parents. She's in for a surprise next time she moves.

* COLD / HOT: the windows have no insulation. It feels like someone's blasting an air conditioner at me when I approach my closed window during the winter. This is AFTER I taped plastic over it, and hung my own curtain on top of the blinds they provide.
