Pros and Cons - Long but detailed and fair

We lived here for 5 years. There were pros and cons.

Pros:
- Marlborough is a convenient location to services, mall, etc.
- This complex is located on a back road but near Rt 20
- Maintenance responds quickly to requests in most cases
- Maintenance was always careful to make sure my cat didn't get out
- The pool (when open) is pretty nice, has a lifeguard
- Central air conditioning
- Access to high speed internet
- Pretty grounds
- Nicer than most of the other places in Marlborough
- If you can afford the updated apts (new kitchens and bathrooms), do it, it is worth the $$
- New property manager every few months

Cons:
- Parking - if you get home after 4:30 you will have to walk
- Bad lighting at night - I used to RUN from my car to the door
- Leaks - I lived in a basement apt for 4 years and my apt had water from underground (my carpet had MOLD and they wouldn't replace it). You could walk on the carpet and it squished betwen your toes. The WALLS leaked because of a hole underneath the balcony of the apt. above that was "repaired" several times. We finally sucked it up and shelled out more $$ to get to a 3rd floor apt. We had personal items that we had stored under our bed and when we moved out, saw that they were ruined.
- Snow removal - if you don't get your car shoveled out by 7am you are going to be plowed in. Then once they plow ONCE, the parking lot turns into an ice skating rink. I fell twice in the lot and told the management office and all they cared about is if I had to file a medical report (to cover themselves). They never would fix the ice.
- KIDS. Loud kilds. 5 kids in a 2 bedroom apt.
- HUGE families in 1 or 2 bedroom apts. One apt had at least 7 people living there.
- Dumpsters are overflowing and nasty. We have seen people drive in from outside to dump their stuff.
- The health club across the street - they have fun runs and events quite often, with bullhorns, microphones, etc. Cops close down the street and you cannot even get in and out of the parking lot. Health club members routinely take spaces in the complex.
- Leasing office is NEVER open.
- Leasing office recieves packages and never tells you. I had a perishable package delivered once and didn't know for 3 days, and only knew bc the sender asked me if I received it.
- Parking lot became a place for teens to hang out with their cars and loud music. I felt very uncomfortable walking through the catcalls.
- Fire alarms. Several a week. No one even bothered to go outside for them anymore.
- Stairwells have garbage, bikes, kids snowclothes, laundry, shoes, shovels, etc.
- Doors always propped open. I got yelled at by another tenant for unpropping it.
- Apt. door lock was always loose, and the door frame looked as if it had been kicked in.
- Walls are thin. You can hear conversations up/downstairs, next door, and across the hall. I knew way too much about my upstairs neighbor's grown daughter's personal life.
- Power outages every time it rained.
- Rent increases by as much as 20% in one year. If you complain, you might get a break. We did this twice and got the rent reduced.
- Bathroom was from the 1970s and never ever updated. Shoddy "repairs" to the bathroom very obvious.
