I miss this place

I was one of the first to move into Wellington Place. At that time, Andrea and Josh were running things, and they were SUPER nice all the time! Many times I was able to come in to just chat with them, they were always great. Soon after, they were switched out with two guys (I don't remember their names) but they were nice as well. The maintenance man was also nice and knew us by name, and would wave to me when I walked to school when he was cutting the grass, and would sometimes stop to chat outside or in the halls (he was a good singer, too). The neighbors were very nice as well, though I only met a few of them. Okay, so I've made my point with the niceness, I didn't meet a single rude person residing at or running this place. :)

We never had any problems with our apartment. Everything worked as it should, there were no holes, no problems, no broken appliances, etc. The only thing that really bothered me about the way the apartment was made was the floor in the kitchen. I'm used to the kind of kitchen floor where you can drop a plate or glass & it WON'T break. but here, everything glass will shatter into a bajillion pieces when it hits that floor... even a small-distance fall. Definitely was not used to that.

The location was great. Very close to the T, shopping, supermarket, etc. The mall isn't exactly spectacular, but like I said, you're very close to the T. You're near everything.

Now, the downsides. Yes, as others mentioned, the Orange Line runs right behind the pool/office area. And it is VERY loud sometimes. However, it's not as loud as the Green Line can get (you know, how it squeaks horribly) so it's never woken me up. I had more problems with my roommate snoring than the T or snowplow, personally.

As for neighbors: the walls really ARE super thin. We were on the first floor, right by the trash compactor... you can only imagine how much it sucked to be paying 1600 a month for an apartment, and the VERY LOUD trash compactor starts up at 3 AM & wakes you up when you have classes early in the morning. The people down the hall were pretty loud, but I never heard noise above me. The neighborhood seemed fine when we were there; in fact, I had walked alone to/from the T, Kappy's, the neighborhoods by Hoff's Bakery, & Meadow Glen Mall plenty of times after dark, with no problems. There were never any rodents or bugs. An occasional spider, but those are everywhere. However, we were there a year, and they never once came to spray for bugs.

I guess the other downside would be the price. We were paying $1568 for a one bedroom... it was big and very nice, and I LOVED having the washer & dryer in the unit (one of my requirements for an apartment), but neither of us had jobs (students) and our money ran out pretty quickly even though we rarely splurged.

I have been away from Wellington Place for a little over a year. Maybe the management or conditions have changed since May 2006, I don't know. But I have still missed it a lot. I've lived three other places since then, and only this place has felt like home. In fact, now that my roommate and I have decent jobs, we are thinking about trying to rent here again. Not in the same apartment, though. I don't want that darn trash compactor ruining my sleep! Besides, someone else is probably in that room by now. :)
