I am 1/2 of a professional couple that moved to Appleton Square due to rent hikes closer to the city. We live in a basic 2B/B apt on the 171 side of the complex. We are one of the folks that pays $1600.00 per month for rent. Other residents seem to be paying much less ($1200.00)for similar units. When we moved in, all seemed well....and then the trouble started.
When we moved in, similar couples occupied the apartments around us, so we very rarely noticed any noise. Then a different type of resident started moving in. Now we are kept awake by NBA want-to-be that consistently bounces things around the apt. below us and neighbors with children that SCREAM all hours of the night. When the complex is not bustling with activity (1:00AM) you hear EVERYTHING quite clearly.
Our car was broken into, not once-but TWICE. Over 5K of damage was done to our vehicle. They have security, believe me when I tell you he is excellent at sitting in his truck and reading. Our other car was damaged due to debris falling from the roof of the covered parking. Four requests to fix the problem and it still remains in this shape. I wouldn't mind, but we pay for covered parking and my car was new. Now I have a nice scratch on the trunk. Overall parking is horrible and people tend to get in each other's way..as a result one of the residents ended up with a "keyed" side door.
The office staff is very nice, and reasonable to deal with, but the do not take action on anything. This is big issue for the amount of $$ we pay to live here.
Also, beware of the "Bird Sanctuary!!" This looks very nice when in the summer, but it's really a smelly swamp. If you have any allergies or if you do not like bugs..stay away. We have had more types of spiders in our apartment (and everywhere else) than I can count. The swamp also radiates an odor on hot days that is just plain nasty...and I have yet to see any of the birds listed on the observation board that is posted in the area.
We are now counting the days until our move to another complex. We have both lived in apartments for a few years and this was THE WORST experience we have ever had.
