Royal Crest is a hole

Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2003
I lived at Royal Crest for 3 miserable years (had I not traveled so much for my job I would have left sooner).
The complex landscaping is beautiful but it ends there.
The buildings are ancient...
The apartments are throw-backs to the Stone Age (except for the newly remodeled apartments that go for hundreds more). Infrastructure maintenance is lacking, leaking roofs, 10 year old slot air conditioners, 30 year old windows which make it impossible to heat your apartment during the winter, 2 washers and dryers per 12 unit building which make it almost impossible to find an available washer after work or on weekends. Mold problems between the walls. If the complex spent half of their landscaping budget to upgrade their apartments they might actually have a good thing going.
Staff:
The front gate and maintenance staff are the greatest people you will find. The office staff is nice as long as you play by the "rules". The reference check that Royal Crest ran on me was more extensive than my Defense Contractor employer. Did Royal Crest really need to contact my manager from 6 years ago to make their decision to rent to me...obviously the answer is yes.
Other little things that annoyed me.
- Royal Crest is on a cellular dead zone. I went through 3 carriers trying to find one that worked there. The best I could do was Verizon. AT&T, TMobile went dead when I entered my apartment building.
- Is it me or does it seem that Royal Crest gets more snow than anywhere else in the Boston area' Maintenance will help you dig your car out but it always seemed that when Royal Crest had 2 feet of snow, everyone else had 6 inches...maybe its me.
If I had to recommend a better complex, I would say Avalon Oaks down the street is the best in the area.
