Pros and cons

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2007

I have lived here for three years. I have never had a problem with car break-ins or noise. My apartment is quite peaceful and quiet. The landscaping and grounds are nice, and the hallway and laundry in my building are clean and well kept, although the hall lights go out quite often and that is a safety issue...seems to be some kind of electical wiring problem. The pool could be kept cleaner and the lifeguards should be made to do that since they basically just sit most of the day. There is a dirt ring around the water level and debris always on the bottom.
In my opinion the management has gone downhill and that trickles down to many levels. When we moved here there were some great ladies in the office... Nancy (who was very pro active and managed things like cookouts and yard sales) and Anne. When the new manager Patty took over, there was almost a complete staff turnover. One by one people left. Also, the guard shack is now manned by this "rent a cop" type company. Many times they are not there and a sign is up that they are "on patrol". Tonite someone was there but he did not even look up as I drove in. Great security! The old guards were very diligent and knew everyone.
For years there was a big community clambake on Labor Day at the pool. This year Patty scheduled the Labor Day event for a Wednesday at 4 pm, and then when not enough people signed up (Surprise surprise..it was the middle of the work week at 4 pm!) she changed it to a free cookout. Hot dogs and hamburgers instead of lobster and clams. Very symbolic of how this place has cheapened. Patty and her cronies did not want to work the Labor Day weekend so the clambake was off.
People who have lived here for almost 40 years have told me how much it has changed in just the past few years. Poor management is the reason.
Oh, and I should also mention that last year we rented the clubhouse for a party and it was only $100...now they want $250 plus a $400 deposit in case you damage anything. The clubhouse is part of the amenities of living here, and it is ridiculous to pay $250 to use it for a few hours. A reasonable fee maybe, but that is not reasonable.
Maintenance was excellent when I first moved here. Now there is one guy on maintenance who is a complete idiot. Don't know his name. He came in to fix something and not only did not fix it, but broke something else in the apartment.
The apartments themselves are spacious and nice. I have not had a mold problem as some have written of here, but I have had ants and have seen other bugs in the bathroom on occasion,
Overall, I would say that this could be a nice place to live but the current management has changed many things and not for the better.

I have been a resident for 2 1/2 years. I have not encountered any problems whatsoever. As a matter of fact, I find it very beautiful, quiet, safe, and my apartment is very spacious. The management staff has always been very responsive and very helpful with any problems or concerns that I have had. As to the clam bake, I was here for the first one and it was very confusing as the clambake company did not send enough help, and so the food was cold, although it was supposed to be catered by the clambake company, the staff had to jump in to help and serve the food. One of the explainations from the manager (as I asked) Patty was they raised the prices so much that the portion was out of reach for many people. She told me that the property paid a portion every year for the residents for the food. I was told the functions in the past was held on labor Day weekend and the reason that Patty changed the day was when she started asking people if they were available, many people were going away. I've lived in many apartment complexes before and I find this one to be exceptional.

I think someone from Royal Crest made that last post, explaining why the place made a mistake. The guards there are terrible, the washing machines flooded all the time and maintenance never came, the workers who came to fix our sink were rude and left a mess.

I see by the above posts that Miss Patty-Poo has not changed a bit. We lived there 4 years ago and noticed a drastic change in staff, maint etc...Not to mention her poor skills as manager in conflict resolution. We left primarily because of her inability to address issues appropriatly. I now see she is hard at work just bringing in revenue at the cost of other tenents....GREAT JOB PATTY!
