Fine place to live.

We've lived here for over a year. The apartments are well constructed. I rarely hear noise from the neighbors. However, the noise from the highway is constant. If you like to sleep or watch tv with the windows open, pay a little extra for the pool view. And try to avoid buildings that are closer to the highway (1,3,5..)

Oh- and the oven is not self cleaning! I didn't even know they still made them like that. It's like a car without air conditioning! The handicapped accessible apartments do have self cleaning ovens- which is thoughtful, I suppose.

The maintenance crew is excellent and hardworking. The landscaping is excellent. Snow removal was good. Parking is adequate. The common areas are kept very clean. I have not noticed a lot of dog poop, but I live closer to the dog walk area. I have seen pet owners in the farther away buildings (16, 17...) who allow their animals to relieve themselves at the front door. Management discourages this, of course, but what can you do' You can tell if you have someone in your building who does this by the condition of the flowers in the front.

The complex had a lot of vacancies in the beginning of the summer 2009. During July, they had a lot of new people move in. Some of them look a little- disadvantaged. (ie. Their children are allowed to run in the parking lot barefoot and dressed only in diapers.) In August, our car was broken into and a neighbor's car had all it's wheels removed! More cars were robbed in September. I don't know if the events are related...but there you are. We had no concerns about vehicle safety until August 2009. I would suggest getting a garage, and keeping it locked.

When our lease came up for renewal they asked $175 dollars per month more for a renewal than they were asking for a new rental of the same type of unit. The office didn't seem to have any negotiating authority and the rents being asked ofnew tenants changed daily. I prepared to move and visited frequently until the price offered to me came down closer to the "new tenant" rate. It seems a crazy way to do things, but it seems to be common in this rental market to give better rental rates to prospective tenants and hope the current tenants will pay higher rents to avoid moving.

So...don't sign the renewal until you check the market rates. And don't leave valuables in your car. And get wheel locks. And other than that, I think it's a nice place to live.
