The good and bad
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 5/5/2006
Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
I moved in June. I have been very happy living here. Let's first start with the pros:
- The building is spanking new. I got my choice of apartments.
- The rent is very fair. It was better the the competing apartments around.
- The floorplan is very nice, especially the open kitchen design.
- The bathroom is super great. There is a gigantic mirror and a garden tub. How often do you see one of those'
- The management company is very friendly. They get stuff done quickly.
- There are ample parking spots all around.
- The gym, pool and social room is also very nice. I think the best part about the gym is that it's inside the building and you can walk there without having to walk outside. This is great during the winter times. The social room has a pool table, flat screen tv and couches.
- The pool is very nice. They have a lifequard there at all times to make sure you don't drown.
- Did I mention there was a hot tub' That's great too.
- The snow removal is very prompt. If the storm occurred at night, it's cleared by the morning.
Now, let's get to some of the cons. And there are a number of them.
- First, the cable and internet company. What a pain in the ass. The company is New England Broadband. Who' Exactly right. They're a small company under contract with Cliffwalk to provide internet and cable access. You CANNOT get any other cable provider. You are screwed in this department. They FREQUENTLY blank out channels and internet. I find it very funny that the channels that they like to black out are: NBC, WB, ABC, and even NICK. And yes, they do this during peak times at night when primetime tv is on. And the internet, don't get me started. It says you get 100mbps (which is normal). But you really get something like 30kbps (half of a modem speed). It is extremely slow at times. And at times, you cannot even connect.
- There is a lack of storage space. It's not a big problem but it is a bit of an annoyance.
- There were a few cases when the fire alarm rang in the middle of the night at 1-2am. Be sure to buy renter's insurance as you never know what can happen. The complex next to us: Rosecliff is infamous for catching on fire and had to evacuate a number of their tenants.
- The lighting and heat in the hallways are an anomaly. The heat/ac is on at extreme levels. It'll be 67 in the summer and close to 80 in the winter. They swear the tenants are not paying for it but it's coming out of the rent. They could turn it down a bit and shave a few bucks off the rent.
Overall, this place is great. This was my first apartment in Boston and am very happy I chose it. It's a safe place here. I cannot understand why there would be break-ins in the apartment next to Cliffwalk as I have never heard of anything like that here. There are security cameras in the entrance so if anyone shaddy comes in, they'll be recorded. However, I think the management company can learn a few things from these reviews and try to make the place better.
