Management tried to pull a sleazy trick on residents!!

I've been living here for a few months. I received a note saying that I had "an outstanding balence on my account." I checked my bank account and saw that they had deposited all my rent checks for the correct amount so I couldn't think of why I owed any money.
Finally a few days later I approached the office and they said "Oh! that's a mistake. We were JUST about to write you a letter saying it's a mistake". They did not take down my name or apartment number. It's been three weeks, and I still have not received any letter saying it was a mistake. They didn't know my name- so they couldn't have assumed I now knew it was a mistake.
In other words- there's a very obvious sleazy scam they're trying to pull. They send out these letters thinking people will just write a check for the amount they supposedly owe. It was under $100 so they figured that's nothing compared to the VERY HIGH rent we pay and they were hoping some residents would just pay it without asking. Obviously they were planning to pocket this money since we didn't actually owe this money to the mgmt company. If you do ask then they say "oh! we were JUST about to send you a letter saying it's a mistake". If you don't ask and you just figure they're right and pay - then these sleazy dishonest people in the office are just pocketing your money.
The apartment itself is very satisfactory. It is actually better than most I've seen. Just wanted to voice my complaint about these cheap dishonest people working in the office. I should go find out their names and post it here.

I also live at Cliffwalk and got the same letter. The people who work in the office are not at all helpful. When they seeing you in the hall and they happen to be with prospective tenants, then they are super sweet; very fake.

I think this all happened when the New Manager started. My understanding is that he accidentally sent these billings based on a billing "prorating" glitch. My balance was corrected but it took him a while to figure out what went on. He definately did not know any of his tenants names but I don't blame him as he just started working at Cliffwalk. They rectified my account. Did they rectify yours?
