We had so many problems at PE over our 2-3 year stay I can't describe them all. But two incidents in particular deserve to be noted - one criminal.
My experience at PE was AWEFUL. I hadn't intended to tell this story, but seeing so many reviews that reflect my negative experience, I feel it is my duty to tell the story.
Finally we moved into a new aparment in Wilmington, MA a month before our lease at PE ended. So, we had two apartments for a month. We had moved all our personal effects out of PE except a few items we were selling including a couch. I proceeded to sell my couch on Craig's List and went to my PE apartment to get it. When I walked in the couch was gone and there was trash all over my recently cleaned apartment. Turns out one of the maintenance guys took my couch (with the approval of the property manager). Plus all the walls had been freshly painted. The evidence from our recent flood had been painted over rather than fixed properly. The thing is I still had 2 weeks on my lease. It was my apartment.
It turns out the maintenance guys were told to start preparing my apartment for releasing since PE had another tenant that would take over as soon as we were out. However, I was told I'd have to pay through the end of my lease because PE couldn't find anyone to take the apartment. (I had given 60 day's notice rather than the typical 30 day). The property manager knew we were staying in our new apartment in Wilmington and took advantage of that to save some money by not having to eat two weeks apartment prep costs. Rather she'd do it while she was still getting rent for it. They had no right according to our lease (a legally bindng document) to go in and prepare my apartment for release while we were still paying rent and living in it. It was illegal and unethical. They certainly had no legal right to take a couch that belonged to me and was in my apartment which I was paying rent for. That's stealing!
During all this, I lost the $450 sale of my couch on Craig's list and have questionable credibility because I couldn't produce the couch. When I finally tracked down what had happened to the couch PE had the maintenance man call me anonymously to try and buy the couch only he demanded it for $200 less than I had sold it originally on Craig's List. When I said no he was very rude and even swore at me then hung up on me. But he did end up putting the couch back in the apartment a couple days later. I ended up having to give it to Goodwill for free as I couldn't resell it before my lease ended.
I demanded my last month's rent back since PE had been lying to me about having a renter waiting and they had broken our lease anyway by going in and preparing the apartment for release while I was still paying rent. Of course they refused. After about month of back and forth banter I finally got a lawyer to write a letter threatening to sue as well as bring criminal charges against the property manager and the maintenance man who took my couch. They immediately gave me my money back.
Talk about nightmares. But beyond just a typical nightmare situation, it shows that this managment has no ethics whatsoever and can't be trusted. They will screw you at any opportunity, regardless of whether it is legal or not. That is scary. Beware. You could lose much more than a good night's sleep at this place.
Also note:
We had many leaks and lot's of mold. In fact the whole time I lived there I was tremendously ill. I believe at least in part the mold played a part in that. But listen to this...
Our apartment flooded from burst water pipes. $8,000 worth of damage to my personal property. Walls bowed and waved from all the water running down them, ceilings sagged and were discolored, and the old carpet was badly mildewed after they refused to bring in floor fans to dry it. PE did nothing to fix the apartment. They didn't turn in an insurance claim, they wouldn't allow me to punch holes in the ceiling and walls to drain the standing water or air it out (God help those of you who are actually in that apartment now with all that potentially hazardous mold). It took two weeks to have the carpet cleaned and it wasn't done well. The stench of mildew reeked throughout the apartment. We finally left, for many reasons, but certainly because they refused to do anything about the flooding damage. You'll also find the seals on the windows and doors are corroded and broken. Leaks in walls aren't fixed and grouting and caulking in bathroom is not maintained. As a result you get moisture and ultimately mold around these areas.
If you do nothing else, I would have a health inspector come inspect your apartment before you move in to this place. But if you want my two cents, you're in for a heap of trouble with this management.

Thanks for the heads up. I am going to check on my apartment after moving out to a new one in case they try these kind of Shenanigans on me. I could keep my eye out for a good lawyer in case they did too.
