Avoid this place!

This absolutely the worst place that I have ever lived in! My husband and I lived here for 13 months. Why 13 months, because they suck you in to a 13 month lease! Initially we were impressed with the exterior and the grounds of the apartment community. I still will say, that the exterior and grounds are well kept. That is the only thing that I can say good about this place.
Our problems started immediately. The first and most annoying problem was the level of noise. We only slept a few nights all the way through due to constant noise issues. At least three nights a week we woke up to our upstairs neighbors who were either fighting or "making up" depending on the night. We filed noise complaints but this did not help because they told us that they can not do anything about noise levels of tenants. Fortunately those tenants moved out but the noise was still an issue. Now there was loud music into the wee hours of the night. Fortunately we only shared one wall with tenants since we were in a corner unit. Our neighbors were considerate but don't expect any privacy. We could hear our neighbors peeing and talking. When the new buildings in the complex starting housing tenants, there were other noise related issues. People would throw parties in the court yard space outside so all you would hear is music until 3 in the morning. Now, I can understand some of these things happening from time to time but not on a regular basis.
The buildings are fire traps. There is only one stairwell for an entire building. If you are on the other side of the building, forget it! This also makes it inconvenient for getting in and out of the building since you have to wait for an elevator.
Parking is awful! You have to pay for your own spot which is sometimes taken by other people. There were also a string of smash and grab robberies in cars parked in the complex. I never felt like my car was safe.
The neighborhood is unsafe.
Heating bills are distributed to tenants. However, they are about three months behind schedule so by the time that you get your first bill, it is January and you can't adjust your habits accordingly.
Front office has a number of issues! This issues increased as the number of staff stayed the same but the number of tenants tripled. Packages are received here. They are supposed to notify you when they come. However we had several instances where the packages had been delivered three or more days before they gave us a notice. Then they tell you that you have 24 hours to pick up your package. However the office is only open until 5pm on four weekdays and 6pm on one weekday and they open at 9am. Aren't most people in work during these hours'! On more than one occasion they also told me that they didn't have my package even though they had sent me a notice.
Leaving the complex was an equally awful experience. Three weeks after we returned our letter to not renew our lease, we received an eviction notice on our door. When we went to the front office they told us that we only paid half our rent. However, we didn't know this because it takes more almost an entire month for them to cash your rent check. When we said we'd cancel the other check that they did not receive (which was in the same envelope as the check they did receive) and write them a new check, they told us that they had to investigate us. Now, we were NEVER late with rent during our entire lease. However, this did not matter. This situation continued for three more days. Finally they admitted to us that they normally send out late payment notes before eviction notices but since their office was behind that month, they sent eviction notices to everyone.
When it came time to receive our deposit, they took out of our deposit for "damages". We had spent the entire day cleaning and had even spackled nail holes. The place was immaculate! Then we received a note in the mail that said we had left damages but didn't specify what the damages were. When contacted, they sent a photo of blinds that someone had run their hand down. They weren't there when we left the place. And apparently it costs $200 to replace two plastic blinds!
We have lived in lots of place prior to this and nothing has been this bad! Not even our college dorms!

All of this is Soooo true. I moved out after 15 months, and was so happy to get out of there. Everything you described I've delt with except the return deposit, so hope that wont happen but who knows. Office help was always changing, took them 6 months to fix a neighbors leak in the hall way. Super nice in the office but usless. Same problems with parking, packages, Fees. They bill for gas and water, you pay the office, then they next month they tell you it's still not paid. They were offering new renters free parking but still wanted to charge me $50 A month but $40 amenities plus $15 alarm fee to renue the lease. They love to add charges to some, and give away free to others. Not sure that's even legal for them to do. I spend a whole day cleaning the place, and it was spotless when I left. Wanted a walk through but they said they only do them till 5pm. Always some excuse, and always with a smile. Gym was open till midnight, then they changed the policy without telling people, and then the manager sent out a note "reminding" us it closed at 11 and people were setting off an alarm. Please, the worst managed place I've ever lived it. And the only joy was seeing it in the rear view mirror as I drove away for the last time.

THANKYOU ALL! I was seriously considering moving hear after I fell in love ,with all that charm they give, since July of this year. My boyfriend was against it, but I was sure it was as great a deal as they said it was.
I will not be moving in there now, and all the complaints listed definately seem feasable. I remeber how young everyone was who worked there (and I'm young too.) and it makes a lot a sense. The neighborhood, etc.
The worst of all this sounds like the paperthin walls.
thanks again
