Absolutely the WORST apartment EVER!

Where do I begin'' I moved into one of the top floors of this building last August. We were initially impressed with the view and the relatively spacious 3BR apartment (a little cheaper than most places in Boston ... but not by much).

I have lived all over Boston / Cambridge / Somerville for the past six years but this was my first foray into district "B-2" as it is referred to by the Boston Police Dept. (more on that later).

For the month of August, I was parked on St. Alphonsus St. Within a week, my car was broken into and the stereo was gone! $400 down the drain.

One important point here: if you have a car that is even a little bit nice, it is essentially UNINSURABLE. I was quoted $3000/yr for insurance that cost $1400/yr in Cambridge.

Naturally I moved the car into the parking lot ($115 / month) which is not gated and has no surveillance. This month (I am moving out), my car was STOLEN! It was recovered by the police: stripped bare (a total loss to me, about $4000). The landlord tells me that about 2-3 cars are stolen per year (both from the covered garage and the cheaper uncovered parking).

If you own a car in this neighborhood, be prepared for some major insurance bills, break-ins and theft.

Other problem (e.g. mildew, excessive noise from the adjacent hospitals, etc. etc. are well documented in other reviews, and I agree with those). All of the longterm residents in this building (that I have talked to) report being mugged (usually several times), having their apartments burgalarized, and rampant petty crime.

Contrary to what you may have heard, this is not a safe neighborhood and the building is sub-par. Furthermore, to add insult to injury, the landlord tried to raise our rent by 25% to renew the lease!! I simply chose to move out... good riddance!
