This is my second year in Back Bay Manor and I'm overall pretty pleased. With a little prodding I got all new appliances because the old ones left something to be desired. The bathroom was renovated over one weekend and looks great although there was a lot of noise in the morning while they were doing the neighbor's. They have no problem with cats and allow small dogs which is great. They are constantly renovating, and have recently updated the alarm system. The infamous slow elevators are set to be replaced in 2008. The concierge is generally really nice and Oscar is great. I've only had one instance of a rude maintenance guy but no problems really. There are NO bugs or rodents. There are sloppy college students and parties but with some intervention they quiet down real fast! My only real complaint is the smell which varies from floor to floor (my floor happens to smell of weed). I have NEVER had a concern with safety even though I am a small woman. I often get home late and haven't felt unsafe walking as you can see the Longwood stop from the building. My only suggestion is to be smart about it, and don't walk on the other side of the street. As far as "the ghetto" goes, it's really not a problem and everyone stays on their side of the street. The landlord Mark is sleezy and rude but... he's a landlord. Its not the Taj Mahal, but it's a big step up from Gainsborough and Peterborough/Queensberry apartments..
