This is a brief summary of the problems we?ve had with Archstone:


1) We were promised a particular unit and never transferred to it. Instead, we were given a ridicuously overpriced apartment and then later told that a more reasonable one was never an option.





2) Our neighbors ran the gamut from a woman addicted to crack with six wayward children to a man with a habit of shouting obscenities at my children. Although we told the Archstone Management about each instance, (and that at one point we feared for our safety) we were told that as landlords they could do nothing to help us, including the fact that they would not transfer us to another unit.





3) We chose Archstone partially because they accepted pets. However, this is NOT a pet-friendly community. They do not like to see pets or kids on the property, and although their are common areas for children to play, we have been "encouraged" to go to neighborhood parks instead.





4) This summer, there was a problem in the basement apartment units during which the building flooded with nearly 4 feet of water. Every other day -- on average -- the building?s screeching fire alarm would go off, calling the police and fire department to the building. Apparently this was due to "water pressure fluctuations" and could not be prevented. This winter, every time a pipe broke anywhere in the area, the alarm would go off, and we would have to get the kids and pets in the car to wait it out -- even in the middle of the night. On more than one occasion, when we asked if they could turn off the alarm, we were told, "It?s not THAT loud, is it'"



And did I mention that we pay nearly $2600 for our "luxury" apartment' How do they get away with charging that much'
