Rent is STILL pricey considering the economy. I was all set to leave until i was given a lower offer to stay. It IS generally a quiet community except for weekend nights and Tuesday Mornings.
Weekend nights you can hear people outside all hours of the night(Not all necessarily from Hawthorne Commons), Car alarms going on and off etc. Tuesday Mornings(As early as 8am) they have a grounds crew come and cut the grass/bushes etc with loud lawn mowers. I have kids and i work late, so this is a huge annoyance to my family and I.
The maintenance crew is usually exceptional. I've only had a couple minor issues that needed fixing and it was done right and quick. Only thing i don't like is that they just enter your home without permission to fix what you need fixed. I came home to find the work done(And done well), but wasn't happy that they were in my unit without asking.
The cleaning crews here have always seemed a little shady. I heard scratching on my door one morning only to open it and find a little guatemalen woman scrubbing the outside of my door. I thought that was very random. They also vacuum the stairs and leave the wires hanging on them. Not very safe.
The parking lot is getting extremely full and i find myself having to park in visitors parking pretty often. I also just got a letter in my door letting me know that the Salem Police Department wants all residents to be aware that there have been many break ins in the area for both residences and vehicles. I would feel a LOT more secure if the management would hire police for the weekends to monitor the grounds like they do up the street at Princeton Properties. Even a security guard would ease my mind a little.
As far as other residents, MOST are wonderful people. However there's a white trash couple that live in one of the units on the first floor who like to throw their cigarettes on the ground(2 times i've put out fires in their shrubs) and a really shady character that lives on the first floor of building 9. I've seen this guy in Target, Market Basket, Taco Bell, EVERYWHERE just being shady. I even read in the Salem News that a Cab Driver broke his door down because he didn't pay his fare!!
Anyways, if anyone has questions, just post them here in reviews or something and i'll answer them openly and honestly.
The place on a scale of 1-10 is a 6.
Thats all for now...
Peace,
RANDOMRENTER

Actually, if they entered your apartment without giving you 24 hours advance notice then what they did was illegal. Even for maintenance that you asked for. Tenants have rights in Massachusetts. A landlord does not have the right to simply enter your apartment.
