My wife and I moved into the complex around the summer of 07'. It was basically what we had expected. The grounds were kept very nice, the gym and pools were pretty cool, but nothing amazing. Very nice location, with many stores and restaurants nearby. We enjoyed our time there, until the very end. We were about a month away from moving to our new home when the worst happened.
We arrived home late on a Friday night to find that our apt had been broken into. The usual items were taken, our computer and camera. Now the part that really got to us was there was no sign of forced entry. The person had a key! We had an incident occur about a year prior where the woman above us unlocked our door (supposedly thinking it was her apt) and walked in. I complained and was told it was a freak occurrence and they changed our lock. After this time, it meant either locks and keys our indeed duplicated or it was someone in maintenance (we had them there about a week prior to fix an issue).
Needless to say, the next few weeks until we got out were hell. Imagine not feeling safe in your own apt! I had a chair against the door every night. Is that really anyway to live' The management was as helpful as they could be. They did allow us to leave early without paying the last month s rent, but really did nothing about the "issue". If we had stayed there, I would have installed my own lock! I feel bad for the honest folks living there.
Also, I ve checked the police logs and crime at the Commons is not unheard of. I ve seen a few incidents of breaking and entry, along with vandalism to cars. They really should invest in some better type of security for the tenants.
To sum it all up, we had a pretty good 1yr and 10 months. Unfortunately, it only takes one really bad incident to erase years of good ones. Please be aware of this before moving here.

Sounds to me like you were hard up for cash and filed a fraudulant renter's insurance claim for these supposed stolen items. I've seen it before and I'll see it again...a resident who claims a neighbor with a duplicate key or maintenance stole their stuff. It's too obvious... the chances of another person randomly figuring out that their key opens your door are slim to none. As for blaming maintenance, again it's a likely story. How stupid would a maintenance guy have to be to risk his over a lame camera. Nice try but it's been done. Take your renter's insurance money and run I hope you don't come to the property I work at you scum.
