poorly insulated and frustrating-can't wait to move From: -Anonymous- Date posted: 1/16/2004 Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004   I wish I could go back to July and take a more critical look at the apartments; and not look at the model or believe that the average cost of electric(which includes your heat) is $100. Think of it as $100 during the summer, and $300 during the winter, and you'll be budgeting correctly. This winter has been quite revealing. Despite our thermostat being set at 80, my husband and I have woken up to 50-60 degree temperatures within the apartment. We don't want it to be 80, just 65. We thought maybe the heat was going out the windows, so we put a layer of vinyl over them. After we did that, we noticed that cold air was coming in through the base of the outer walls, where the floor meets the wall. We put blankets there. Despite all of our efforts, it is 50 degress in our apartment;and that is according to the thermostat in the apartment. The heating source in the apartment cannot keep up with the loss out of the apartment. A pipe has frozen. When the subject was brought up to the staff, it was attributed to the cold outside. No apology was given by the staff, and when the subject of the misleading average electric bill (that they tell you is $100 when you ask before you rent the aprtment) they state that is the average for the whole year. It is more like $175; $100 in the summer, $300 in the winter months. Be warned that their statement is not true, and everything will be frozen in your apartment if you followed their average. Also know that the maintance staff cares about you, and the office staff would rather not bother with you,(except for the saleswoman, who is really nice). This statement is an opinion, but it is backed up by 7 months of experience and 3 previous maintenance problems in the apartment. Best of luck in your apartment search.
