It depends on the neighbors

My husband and I lived here for 1 1/2 years, moved out of the area for 3 years and recently returned to the area.
We chose to move back into Sugarloaf Estates because in some ways it felt like "coming home".
All in all, Sugarloaf is a good complex.
Common areas are kept clean and well lit, the grounds are pretty, the busline comes to the complex (convenient for UMass students/employees), rent is pretty fair, and office & maintanence staff is friendly and acts quickly on requests.
On the down side, the ceilings separating apartments are EXTREMELY thin.
We hear way too much of our neighbors late night music and conversations.
(Office staff takes noise problems very seriously and have spoken with the neighbors as have we.
They're just a little clueless sometimes).
The actual apartment is one big rectangle (reminds me of a shoe box).
The master bedrooms of every building face the parking lot which adds to the evening noise factor, smell from others smoking outside your window or exhaust from cars.
If you DO choose to live here try to get an apartment in the center of the building as that is where the laundry area for each building is.
On a snowy night, it's nice to just go downstairs in your slippers rather than putting on your snow gear to check the dryer.
Also, try to get a unit on the top floor so you don't have to listen to the neighbors above you do their daily aerobics video!

I moved out of Sugarloaf Estates about 6 months ago and I would never move back. The apartments are nice despite leakings with the toilets, sinks and dishwashers. The managements are liars and will say or do anything to make money. I didnt fulfill my lease due to problems but I would never move back in. They say one thing and do another and then hold you responsible. Do not move in here unless you want to pay a pretty penny and deal with people who lie and screw working people over. Sugarloaf Estates is ONE BIG SCAM!
