It may be affordable, compared to other Boston-Area apartments... but this place is not well maintained. It's VERY noisy, and though Dino, the maintenence/building super tries his best, the management company (The 99-109 Linden St. Mgmt. in Somerville, MA) which runs the complex is NOT quick to respond to problems or concerns of building residents... if they do at all.
The two buildings, 99 Linden St. and 109 Linden St. in Waltham, MA, are brick buildings, but with big, noticeable cracks in support walls and columns, old and dirty, uneven carpets in common hallways, not to mention broken windows, poor exterior lighting, NO recycling pickup, and though there is bi-weekly trash pickup of the ONE SMALL dumpster for the two buildings in the complex, it is often overloaded with furniture and other items discarded by residents. Trash is frequently left in front of dumpster, and left to blow around the parking lot.
There is NO landscaping/greenery to speak of, and no view AT ALL (unless you enjoy a view of another apartment building, train tracks, or an auto repair facility). Residents are CONSTANTLY keeping common outside doors propped open to go smoke behind buildings or let a friend in, so safety seems iffy sometimes... especially during a move-out or move-in.
Parking is TERRIBLE during winter months. There are NO assigned spaces, except for covered parking under buildings. The tire company next-door plows the parking lots, but is frequently slow to clear the lots, ties up several much-needed spaces with piles of snow, and most residents do NOT shovel out remaining snow from around their vehicles... not to mention the folks that decide to make navigating the lots more challeging by double parking in front of the building entrance, or creating their own unofficial parking spaces, wherever they feel like it.
Noise level is terrible, and not JUST from the commuter rail train that passes by close to the buildings several times per day. Residents and visitors often blare car stereos in the parking lots at all hours of the day. A call to the Waltham Police EVERY Weekend after 11pm, and knock on doors AT LEAST 4-5 times per week during daytime hours is frequently required to get neighbors to turn down their television or stereos, just so you can hear a tv at a reasonable level inside your OWN apartment!
Some residents leave trash and personal items in the hallways outside their apartments to block hallways on a regular basis.
Do yourself a favor... look elsewhere!
