Decent...not horrible, not spectacular...

I've lived at Longview since spring of 06. My husband and I were the first and only tenants in our apartment, and we have a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 bathrooms.

I think some of the reviews here are a bit bogus, both in terms of the ones that are a little too good to be true, and the ones that make it sound like a pit.

The things that we haven't really liked about living here
***The staff in the office has changed at least 3 full times in the past 18 months. This leads to much confusion, and they've yet to actually come up with a clear method of handling parking

***Speaking of parking---if you have a second car, you're supposed to pay for a second spot. It is obvious that almost no one does--and "kim" with the vanity plates, and a sports car on the inside with an SUV with complementary vanity plates in the visitor lot, I'm looking at you--instead parking their second cars in the visitor lot fee free. The building has told us multiple times that they are looking into it and will fix it---and have yet to be successful in the time we've lived here

***I don't have a major issue with the dogs. I've heard dogs on two separate occasions, and neither barked very loudly or for very long. What I do have an issue with is that the building likes to post these passive aggressive notes about how they're potentially going to revoke all pet priveledges if the dog owners don't clean up after their dogs. As a cat owner, I say kick out the dogs and don't punish my well behaved cat. I'm also not a fan of being lectured like a naughty child.

***The walls don't seem overly thin, but the doors must be hollow because you can totally hear whatever is going on outside in the hallways

***The buildings are very transient. The majority of the tenants (at least on my floor) seem to be business people whose companies put them up here for a few months before they buy a house or move again or whatever. I've seen three sets of neighbors across the hall since we've been here. My major issue with this is that every few days the movers commandeer one of the elevators and then don't tell the concierge when they're done, causing an elevator to remain locked down on the parking level for the rest of the evening. Kind of annoying.

***Although the building is theoretically "handicapped accessible" there is absolutely no way for a person in a wheelchair to get into the building from the parking levels. And although they've recently installed handicapped button entrances for the front door it remains unclear how that person would get through the secondary door after using the key pad.

***Recently my building has had the electricity blip in and out a lot. Not usually for more than a minute, but it's freaking annoying.

***As others have said, Comcast is the only cable/internet provider, and as our homeowning neighbors can get FIOS, this sucks.

***Finally, when it comes time to renegotiate your lease, it's like talking to a used car salesman. First they were going to raise our rent. When we said no, they lowered the increase. When we said no, they offered us the same price.

***I don't know what kind of rug they bought, but it stains ridiculously easily. I can't wait to see how much of my security they'll keep because of it.

The good

****I love the amenities. Having a washer/dryer in the apartment is the best!

****Sean, the head concierge knows everyone and is a total sweetie

****The 24 hour fitness center is great, and I've never had trouble getting a machine

****The screening room/party area is really nice, and we've hosted several parties there at no cost to us. Many similar properties would charge you for the use.

****There's always hot water, although around 8 in the morning, you have to turn the temp up really high to get it

****I've always gotten a quick response to any maintence request I've had to put in

****Generally speaking, it's a quiet property-I almost never encounter anyone in the elevators, and have only ever had one neighbor be loud, and when we complained, it was dealt with.

****The views of Boston are spectacular

****The appliances are very nice--I'm pleased with the performance of my stove/oven/dishwasher/microwave/disposal/washer/dryer

****The heat/air is easy to maintain

****The property is generally well maintained--the common areas are generally kept clean

****The grounds seem attractive enough. I don't actually hang out outside or have a dog to walk so I don't see much of them other than driving in and out, and it always seems nice.

****Having seen comparable apartments, they seem a decent deal for the money compared to Archstone, and you certainly get more for your money than at the Charlesgate apartments.

Overall, I think it's it's a decent value for the money.
