I moved into a TH at Windsor Village Oct '06 and am right on Hardy Pond. The view of the water and sensets are spectacular! This mature development has great charm and the landscaping is nice. The entire development has gone through a total renovation inside and out, and is very competitive for the great location, and what you get for the money. Although it is built in a very hilly area with many stairs and steep hills - the roadways are always cleared and sanded in the winter. However, keeping the walkways and stairs clear of snow and ice at all times is a challenge for the maintenance staff..... perhaps more people should be made available during and after a storm since there are over 700 units here. With the challenges of the property's geography, they do the best they can.
The management staff are always very pleasant, outgoing and accommodating. The maintenance crew are always pleasant and do a great job given the challenges of such a large property. No Windsor is not perfect, but I have researched other smaller communities, and have read and heard far worse complaints. My rating is for my particular unit in building 45. Parking is tough in my area. Windsor is very pet friendly. (Since the renovation) I don't hear a peep from my neighbors on either side of me, or from the 1-BR apartment under me.
For physical health reasons, I now must move to a one level apartment, with minimal stairs, at a different property. The property manager could not be more sympathetic and accommodating to my needs when I met with her and shared my personal situation. As with any large community, Windsor has its pluses and minuses. I recently have been looking extensively for a new apartment and I have to honestly say, that Windsor may not be for "everyone" but it certainly is better than most comparable places in the area based on my research. I will miss my sunset views on the water 3 seasons out of the year (once the leaves are on the trees there is limited visibility of the pond.) However the spectacular views including wildlife, the rest of the year more than offsets this.
This community is what you make of it. Since it is so large, it seems very transient especially with so many students, but overall there is a diverse mix of residents. I have rented and owned places for over 20 years in communities in the surrounding area (and served as a trustee and chairman of a condo complex for 5 years). My advice: DO YOUR HOMEWORK before you move here or anywhere, and look at the big picture. If not, IMHO, it is your own fault if you end up unhappy where you end up living.
