Rents everywhere in the Boston Area are going down, yet here they?re going up. Why is that' Well, I thought you might like to know their response.
When I found out about my rent increase, I was surprised since I had just seen a couple of articles about how rents were down all over Boston and landlords were offering special deals to attract and retain tenants. I actually found the articles and brought them to their attention. They told me (with a completely straight face) that the housing market in Greater Boston is extremely volatile, and while the market may have been down when those articles were written just two weeks before, the market was now booming and they could justify the higher rents. They told me that the market can shift dramatically from week to week, which I know is garbage because these places rent month to month, and even then it?s not that volatile. I also know that this place is practically a ghost town since these owners took over, and I?ve seen articles since then talking about how the rental market is still down. I guess the articles missed that spike in occupancy that occurred when they wanted me to renew.
