After you move in, you will feel you never stop spending your money.
Renting fee is expensive enough. But you'll quickly find that you have to pay for every penny on your util: In winter, the gas cost me around $170200/month (I lived in one bedroom apt). They even charge you for water ($40/month)!! You also have to pay for property insurance which is madatory here ($30/month).
Wait... that is not the end. After you move out, they can always find stains on your carpet unless you are using air cushion bed & sofa. Be prepared to pay another $500.

You had to pay for the gas that you used? And that was surprising to you? How are the costs "hidden" when they tell you up front that they don't cover any utilities?
Of course you never stop spending money for resources that you are consuming! While I think most of your complaints are unreasonable, I must admit that they use a private company to manage the water which ends up costing you more than it would to purchase water directly from the town. Additionally, the town actually charges large apartment complexes more for water than smaller buildings or homes.
My experience with Northland has been positive. They took over this property in September 2007. Maybe it was the Avalon management company that was the problem?

jadedverve - are you one of the leasing agents? Why are you taking in favor of the property?

Maybe because he's just making sense. Keep your thermostat on 75-78 in the summer and 60-65 in the winter and put on a damn sweater. Not everyone who doesn't complain in a secret leasing agent.

The response comments seem fishy. Looks like the leasing agent(s) are using different ids to respond and justify the reason for charging more money for the utilities, when they don't replace the broken water meters and try to spread out the cost to other tenants.
